Hello all! New to this board but not the Caesar series. :)
After reading these posts I was a bit worried about getting the demo installed before the game hits the retail shelves.
No Worries the demo installed and launched "just like the book says" ;)
I played with some settings and have found that an overclocked Graphics card can get 2 results- 1) in game black playing field 2) crash to desktop upon launching the game.
I am running a Gainward Nvidia Gforce 4 Ti 4800 SE with the 81.95 drivers
Using the Xpert tool supplied by Gainward to control the clock speeds (core and memory), I have found that running in "enhanced mode" works just fine for the game. This gives me a core clock speed of 288 Mhz and a memory speed of 616 Mhz. If I bump the core to 290 Mhz and memory speed to 620 Mhz I get the black in game play area, the interface and cursor are fine. If I Jump the speeds to 295 core and 670 memory I will crash to the desktop when I try to launch the demo. These settings seem to be independent of using the windows slider for hardware accceleration from Control Panel/display/settings tab, advanced button/troubleshoot tab.
With the higher clock speeds even setting the slider down would still result in the same results.
On another note, If you did get the demo to run and changed the in game settings from the demo defaults, and upon relaunching the demo later experiance the black screen or crash to desktop, you will need to uninstall the game, and MANUALY remove the Sierra folder from C:\[I]PROGRAM FILES[I]\Sierra. This folder is left behind after the uninstall and contains your old settings. Do NOT remove the folder C:\Sierra. this folder may be found on your computer if you have C3 or other Sierra games
I also had no trouble running the demo on drivers from 2004 the driver updates did improve the visuals as well as in game performance Nvidia drivers can be found here for all those who are looking for older drivers for the Nvidia chips
