Where do you look in Windows (XP in my case) to see if you have .Net installed on your machine (and what level....).

Previously I think I stayed away from installing it as I didnt want Bill Gates
spying on my machine (in various ways).

Were do you get the intaller (as it appears to be needed by C4) -- I dont recall seeing .Net listed in the requirements previously.

What I heard the game needs it, so you need to install it.
You can get it at Microsoft.com ( if you have XP, you can just get it through automatic updates..or let Microsoft scan your HD and it will tell you what you need to install)

You can look for the file under the add/remove program option

Go to SYSTEM and SOFTWARE.........there should be .Net listed !

It is not a spying-bit!

The primary focus of Microsoft .NET Framework is improved security. In addition, the service pack includes roll-ups of all reported customer issues found after the release of the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1. Of particular note, SP1 provides better support for consuming WSDL documents, Data Execution prevention and protection from security issues such as buffer overruns.

SP1 also provides support for Windows XP Service Pack 2 to provide a safer, more reliable experience for customers using Windows XP.

I have Win XP SP2

Settings | Control Panel | System has no Software tab (but I looked thru all the options and no mention of if (.Net)

Likewise 'Add or Remove Programs' had no .Net entry

Likewise REGEDIT didnt show up anything on .Net or Framework (for .Net)

So I guess I dont have .Net installed.

Keith posted a link to it in his tech help thread. Possibly about the second or third page in. I did not have it either, my game machine is not connected to the internet, so up till now I haven't needed it.

If you don't see NETFramework in your ADD/REMOVE list you don't have it.

You can get version 2.0 here:

Erm, sorry my friend, but .NET Framework has absolutely NOTHING to do with security and I don't know where you got that idea from. .NET is a programming language Microsoft developed to help software developers write software much more easily using an established framework of tools and controls. Many applications are written in .NET v1, and many newer applications are starting to be released that require the newer v2.

You are correct that it has nothing to do with Microsoft spying on people though.

Wodinoneeye, I would suggest going to Microsoft Update at the link below and clicking on the Custom scan button. Allow it to install all updates including the optional ones (these are not selected by default). I believe .NET framework is an optional update. Microsoft Update will also update any versions of Microsoft Office you have installed, including Publisher, Project and Visio. You should do this often, additionally you should also enable Automatic Updates if you haven't already. The threat of viruses and other malware is far greater than the possible threat of Microsoft "spying on you". It is always safer to have a fully patched and updated system, and those without these patches are the main cause of viruses spreading so quickly.

I do know that my "friend".
You have picked that Quote out of some other threat where someone thought it "is some spyware", which I corrected to him/her.
