Welcome to our family, Deanhplc! :)
From the looks of your DxDiag, you have the computer stuff. Perhaps it is just drivers. I am not a techie in any way, but one of our Pros should be around shortly to help you.
Good Luck! :)

Here is an ATI-man! :p
First......you have: Current Mode: 1152 x 864 (32 bit) (85Hz)
do go down to: 1024x768 16bit 60 Hz
----------------
Your ATI "only" has Display Memory: 64.0 MB, but should be just enough.
Your ATI-driver is: Driver Version: 6.14.0010.6614.....which is Catalyst 6.4 from May 06, do get Catalyst 6.7 from Juli (being installed once it will have the number Driver Version: 6.14.0010.6626 ;)
When changin`the driver...do us a favour and use a driver-cleaner before installing the new. :D
Phil Walker is right.......get rid of that "generic-beast".
I leave the sound-stuff for Keith

There are a LOT of threads about problems with the 9200, Deanhplc. Try some of these (http://www.tiltedmill.com/forums/search.php?searchid=173382). Use the Excellent Forum search function for more! :)

I tried installing the 6.7 driver off of the ATI site but get an "INF: video drivers not found" error. This is even after i removed the older driver using ATI's own driver removal utility. I then immediatly tried to install the 6.5 driver and it worked fine. Looking at the ATI page, it says the 6.7 driver does not support the radeon 9200 card that i have. I already changed the graphics settings as you suggested but still getting an error. I installed the demo and even that doesnt work. Do i ahve to get a new card all together?
BTW: i dont have an external hard drive. I have a serial ATA drive running on RAID bios that runs windows. I have another internal IDE drive that is just for extra storage. Maybe my system recognizes one as being external, but i woudnt know why

I've got the dreaded 9200, and I've just updated my drivers in the last 5 minutes.
Yes, it says Not supported, but click on the 9200 link anyway, then scroll down to the dial up section and you will see another link to download the driver.
Mine now has the same number that Manni referred to above. But it is ....6614 (the same you already have) NOT ... 6626

how can i clean my registry?
deanhplc
08-13-2006, 04:45 PM
Steps i have taken:
Doanloaded CCleaner, ran all the analysis and fixed all problems in registry and windows.
opened up MSconfig and dissabled all boot programs and scripts that where not from microsoft or another known app. (there where some boot call ups for old adware and spyware garbage that i removed using anti-viruses, thier empty call ups where still there, not anymore)
STILL got the error message. Now everything running in background is designated as being a system process, or a process i recognize.
Ran it in safe mode, same thing, still get the error message.

i tried it while dissabling almost every back up program.
in safe mode, the screen flashes black, shows nothing, then gives me the error.
In normal mode, i dont even get a black screen, i emmediatly get the error message "children of the nile has encountered a problem...blah blah" while still veiwing my desktop. it takes about 2 seconds from when i double click the icon to when i get the error.

Bad news then Herodotus!
When you downloaded AND just installed the ATI-Catalyst Version 6.7 from July 06 then your dxdiag MUST show ...6626 !
If not then it is NOT Catalyst 6.7 !
The ......6614 is still the "old" Catalyst Version 6.5
What kind/make/brand of pc do you have there?

I've read throug the thread to this point and only have one thing to add so far.
Which drive do you have the game installed on?
I noticed that your F: drive only has 2.1 GB of free space left. If the game is on there it may not have enough room to run.
BTW, where is your D: drive? You go from C: to F:.

@Herodotus
as you are at it..........
you can also do an update on your sound-stuff.
You have right now:
---------------------
Sound Capture Devices
---------------------
Description: Realtek AC97 Audio
Driver Version: 5.10.0000.5790
fromDate: 2/24/2005
Why not get sound-driver version A3.91 from here:

Kieth: my D drive strangly enough sometimes disapears but i run "add new hardware" and it miraciously apears. and yes i do this before i start the game. Its drivers are updated aswell.
The game is on the drive with windows, it has about 20 gigs free.
as for the movies fix, i tried it and no avail. The demo didnt even have any files int he movies directory, dont know why that didnt work.
I just went out and purchased another card. A G-force 6600 256MB
Il give this a try, if it doesnt work il return the card and just use my old one.
thnx again for all your help, dean

If you can't get that Nvidia card running, you might want to try the Ati Radeon 9800 Pro, which is what I use, and what Mark uses on my recommendation. My 9800 Pro is 3 years old and has 128MB; newer ones will have 256MB. Your system is not all that different than mine, both are P4 Intels running 2.8 and 3.0Ghz respectively. Both running XP Pro SP2. DX9 versions are identical. Same amount of RAM.
Go into the Cotn.ini file using Windows Notepad and edit the line for the graphics settings from 1280 to 1024 and from 1024 to 768. Save the file as Cotn.ini. (Make sure it's doesn't have the .txt added after you save the file. Rename it if it does.)
From:
Game Window Height 1024
Game Window Width 1280
To:
Game Window Height 768
Game Window Width 1024
This assumes that your ini file is using your default monitor display settings in your dxdiag.txt file.

SOLVED, for the meantime.
after un-intalling, and re-installing drivers several times. I now noticed that under dxdiag the direct3d function was simply disabled for my nvidia card. Now the game starts up, now to test the actual game functioning.
This however does not explain the 9200 problems as i had several other games with direct3d working fine.
thanks for your help all

Hello deanhplc,
I agree to what Phil Walker says:
By your new DxDiag I again see a particular problem. You must not have uninstalled all the ATI drivers as the message showing the Direct 3D version 9 is still not available. You might need to run the cleaner again and remove all the old MPEG files if you didn't before. Placing a new card and new drivers over the old drivers won't do the trick if this is what you did.
At that point Phil is right!
I recommend you to get the possible ATI-leftovers completely out which still could cause trouble.
Do go here : http://www.drivercleaner.net/professional.html
and have a read. Download and install the drivercleaner pro (it is free) it also has an update function and comes in all languages. I use it every time I change drivers.
Just as you see at the sceenshots .............choose all ATI-stuff one by one and clean out the leftovers.
Also do have a look at C partition, there is always an ATI-file left which you can also delete.
