Hokay, I got the GIMP program. I downloaded the help file and the plug-in for the CotN files. Now where in Hel's realm do I put them. I search for instruction and didn't find them. In fact it sounded as if I extracted they should go whereever they belonged. No such luck. Advice please.

When I unzipped and installed mine it didn't have an exe file:eek: I just right clicked on the .DDS and set them to open with gimp;)

I hope this helps any... It acts differently on THIS computer so it might not:(

Azeem might be able to help.

There is a small free program called DDS Converter 2.1 that is a standalone application that will extract the game DDS files into image formats which you can then edit with any graphic editor. It will then recovert your images back into a DDS file.

It's the program I used for my Red Temple modification. I extracted the files into TGA format, edited them with Paint Shop Pro, and then reconverted the edited image back to DDS format.

This is no help with GIMP however. ;)

If you associate the DDS files with GIMP it should be able to open them.

http://developer.nvidia.com/object/nv_texture_tools.html has a few wonderful tools for dds files.

The texture viewer will allow you to view thumbnails in your windows folders of the dds files in it.

DXTBmp is a nice stand-alone program that you can associate with Photoshop or PSP. Essentially you'd drag the file into the program screen, and import it to Photoshop/PSP for editing. You can also edit the alpha layers in it too, then return the saves to the DXTBmp program to save your changes.
