game crashes on last "play" button

After all intro's, menus, scenario selection, city selection in main campain when pressing the "play" button the game drops on desktop with no error messages. It happens in any scenario type - learning, single scenario or campaign.

Your video drivers are too old as are your sound card drivers. Your video card is a DX 8 card so you will need to first install drivers dated at least July 2004 for your video card then run all the DX video tests to see if your card can handle DX 9. You will also need to updated your sound card drivers to at least the same month as the new video drivers. CotN is very demanding on the video card so you might want to change the game settings to best performance.

Yes, your ATI drivers are a little too old. Try ones no older than 8/28/2004, which is the one's I'm using on my 9800 Pro.

Your SB Live! soundcard is a bit outdated and the drivers are far too old. You probably won't find any drivers that very much newer and SB doesn't suppor the card with drivers anymore. It's probably time for a new soundcard.

IIRC, I think that ATI cards no older than the 9200 were recommended, but that doesn't mean your card may not work, but then again it may not work.
