Okay so a week or so ago my little bro, put his warcraft 2 disk into the cd-rom drive and was using the map editor. He told me he heard a very loud pop noise and then a grinding sound like somthing got stuck in a fan:eek: He Immediataly un-pluged the comp and cheaked everything out, nothing appeared wrong. so later we turned it back on and found it worked fine, exept the cd rom wouldn't open. A few days later after using the little poker thing for hours I finally got it open and found (not to my suprise) that the disk was shattered into tiny little pieces (some still stuck in the drive)
Everything nowadays needs a cd-rom to run, all of my important art programs and of course my video games do anyways, so I want to play cotn but Im scared that even if I can clean up the drive it will still EAT MY PRECIOUS DISK:eek:  :( :( :( :( :( then I will cry!!! WHAT CAN I DO!

I understand your problem. On the other hand, such drives are quite cheap nowadays - especially if you only need a cd-rom and not a dvd-rom. Or was the drive a cd burning drive?
Or maybe you have friends who could spare a drive?
As you said, even if you get it 'clean' again, there's always a risk something was damaged or that some shards will remain in the drive and cause further havoc. You could try it out on an old cd-rom you don't need anymore - just to see how the drive reacts.
I don't suppose you still have a warranty on the drive?

Okay so we had an older cd-rom in the attic and it seems to work:D so now Im happy, the other one was a lot better but for now this will work.

At least you had one to fall back on. Rather than just a plane CD-ROM now, I'd probably get myself another newer and faster burner drive if I didn't have a backup CD-ROM of my own to use.
