It seems that I can only see water in the Nile when I set the water detail to low, if I set it any higher (medium or high) then the water disappears and all the boats float in mid-air, but the ripples from the invisivble water still appear. I have quite a new computer and have installed the patch so I don't know what the problem could be. I have included the dxdiag file, so could anyone please tell me what is wrong and how I can fix it? Thank you

someone had the same problem not long ago. Solved by updating the audio drivers. Can you try that?

Thanks for the advice Phil, sadly though this hasn't solved my problem. Is there any other way to help solve it? I know it may seem like a minor issue, but I am quite annoyed that I see a beautiful Nile in all the screenshots yet in my game it doesn't look at all nice.

Update the audio drivers to fix a graphic problem?????? Not that updating those old drivers is a bad idea, it wouldn't fix your current problem.
More than likely it is a problem with the video drivers of your ATI Radeon 9600 card. You may want to try a different version than the ones you have.
You have to uninstall the current drivers first. Required. Then install the newer or other version drivers you want to try. You can get a uninstaller program from ATI that will do a better job of uninstalling the drivers files than Windows can do. www.ati.com (http://www.ati.com)
I have a Radeon 9800 Pro and use drivers dated from August 2004 and they work fine with CotN and all the other games I play.
You can also try a lower resolution like 800x600 in the game and see if that may help. Also try using 16-bit instead of 32-bit color and see if that will help. Try lowering the refresh rate from the current 70Hz to 60Hz and see if that may help.

I have the same card as you do, Keith, but it's All-in-Wonder card. May you tell me more detail of version # that you're using? I'm currently using Catalyst 6.2 (for WinXP)

Alright, I got it, it's dated August 16th 2004, Catalyst 4.8.
Thank you very much, Keith!
It's funny that I have to wayyyy... downgrade my Display Driver from 6.2 down to 4.8 just for CotN :p
Technology is weird :D, no wonder why US mil. still using B-52 at this modern time LOL...
I'm also a loyal ATI user :)

I'm glad it helped.
I've just never bothered to update my drivers because they are working for everything I'm running now.
You might want to report the problem to ATI.

As the same way as kkjbk got, I thank you, Keith! Now, I can see the water with Catalyst 4.8 on my ATI AiW 9800 PRO instead of Catalust 6.2.
Weird! :D

I have Radeon 9550.
Bought a game that needed a newer video driver. Today I returned to Cotn to find that the water had disappeared.
Found this thread, considered going back to the older driver and switching back and forth for the two different games. :( Didn't like that idea, but in the process of going to ati.com to get the older driver found that Catalyst is up to 6.5 now.
Installed it, the water is back and the other game works as well.
Win-win. Hooray for ATI!:D

Cool. I'll probably have to udate my driver before Caesar IV just to be sure I won't have any problems. Good to know that the new one works with CotN.
