Problems with a read error.

Hi everyone,
I recently bought this game, Children of the Nile, and it won't even get as far as the installation screen. When I try to run the disc, I hear some sort of vibrating sound as it runs and no installation screen comes up. Other discs work on my laptop and when my husband tried the disc on his pc, it went straight to the installation screen. I am on windows XP as is my husband and I have a mobile centrino technology chip x

Post a copy of your dxdiag.txt file.

That "vibrating sound" doesn't sound good. If it happens a lot you may have a drive going bad if it is more than just the ordinary running sound.

Reboot your computer to the Safe Mode, and then run the installer. Then reboot back to normal.

The Safe Mode will close down all unnecessary items on your system and give the installer a clean shot at your computer. Sometimes when other apps are running on your system it can interfer with the installer and cause it to run slowly or not at all. In the past there have been many cases were people have tried to install a game and nothing apparently happens or the installer screen disappears partway through the install. Often what you could do was just wait it out. Don't reboot or run other programs when it happens and wait betwee 20-60 minutes and the whatever problems the computer and installer were having with each other gets sorted out and the install will suddenly complete.

The Safe Mode install avoids this problem.
