installation failed

Hello together,


I played CotN some month ago, but i deinstall it as i was not able to get ride of the feesing screens. Nevertheless i am still interested to play the game, so i tryed it again today, unfortunally without success, i was not yet able to install the game as the installation failed because the file Cr_oil_Hand.CEM couldn´t be written to the harddisk.
I updated my grahics and sound drivers, i updated the bios and also the VIA chipset and i already have DirectX9.0C on my computer. I have also run Chkdsk to make sure no harddisk problem is the cause. But all without success. I do not have any idea what the problem is. I havethe latest dxdiag attached, maybe somebody from the specialists can help me.

Bevor du CotN erneut versuchst zu installen, defragmentiere mal die Zielpartition und versuche die Reste der alten Installation zu löschen!!

Die jetzige Auflösung ist: 1280 x 1024 (32 bit)
stelle mal testerhalber auf 1024x768 und 16 bit
die Treiber, graka und sound, sind ok so
virtueller ist auch gut eingestellt

Ruf mal die Eigenschaften von Desktop auf und dort Problembehandlung, dort ist die Hardwarebeschleunigung zu sehen..............
wenn die nach rechts auf Anschlag volle Pulle ist, dann nimm die mal EINEN Tick zurück, knipse den Virenguard und die Feuerwand aus und versuche das Spiel erneut.

Do the things Manni suggests. The fact that the Cr_oil_Hand.CEM file couldn't be written to the hard drive could indicate a couple of problems. Doing a hard drive Clean Up and Defragmentation will usually cure one of these problems. Sometimes if the C:\Windows\Temp folder is full or cluttered the isntaller will fail. Running these utilities will help with that problem.

However, if it odesn't cure the problem it could indicate a problem with the CD itself or the CD drivers or something interfering with the read function of the CD. Check the CD for any scratches, dirt, finger prints, etc. If you find any dirt or finger prints carefully clean the CD surface.

If it has a scratch the CD may be unreadable in the current CD drive. If you have a second CD drive try installing the game from it.

If it still won't install you may need to update your CD or DVD drive driver files to a newer version for your brand and model CD/DVD drive. You should be able to get them from the maker of your CD or DVD drive. Sometimes the maker of the computer will have updated drivers if the drive came with the computer originally.

Shut down your virus scanner before isntalling the game.

A couple of suggestions (since I don't read German don't know what Manni suggested). Suggestion 1. roll your video drivers back to drivers dated no earlier than Dec 2004, 2. CotN doesn't uninstall the secu-rom key in the registry when it's uninstalled, you might have to manually remove that key from the registry before CotN will reinstall.

i was able to install after i empty the temp folder and reduce the screen solution as recommended. Now i am playing the tutorial without any big issues (only the blinking cursor is a bit lazy). I hope i will not have the freezing screens again when i start the Szenarios.
If so, i fear i will come back soon :-)
