View Full Version : Game Crashes on Scenarios and Campaigns but not on Tutorial?

I just wondered why? As from what i can tell from the specs of the game and my machine, I have the minimum specs but it won't run the game. If I go to the Editor and test a map then it works, and when i go to tutorials it works. But the normal game and campaigns don't work.

My Graphics Card is the S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR (it has 32mb).

Any ideas, as i really want to play this game properly.

Thanks

find the DxDiag attached for the machine.

I'm not positive, but your ProSavage DDR chipset (not a card) is probably not DirectX 9.0 compatible.

CotN requires a DX9 compatable video system. You have a video chipset on the motherboard and not a seperate video card. Most of these chipset video systems are not powerful enough to do the job.

The tutorial missions are quite small and don't tax the system much, but the later campaign missions will probably be too much for your video chipset.

In such a case you may have to get a vidoe card like an ATI or a Nvidia. Then disable the motherboard video chipset from the BIOS menu.

Your Realtek AC97 sound driver is a bit old too. Something from mid-2004 or later would be best if you can find one.

Also, you have just the minimum amount of memory or less that is required to run the game with XP. The minimum memory required for a XP system running CotN is 256MB.

@ chrisandshana,

Here you find a tool called WINS3 ID.exe which helps you identify your graph-chip:

http://www.s3graphics.com/en/resources/drivers/index.jsp

to choose the right driver use the box and select "ProSavage DDR"

------------------------------------

here you find the latest graph-driver for your graph-chipset:

http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=420&OSID=1&CatID=1160&SubCatID=112

it is version: 6.14.10.0033-13.94.33 22 from February 2005, size 5 MB

for S3 Pro SavageDDR integrated graphics (KM/KN/PM/P4M/P4N266)

your chip is stuck on a Micro Star Motherboard Typ: KM266-8235

Thanks for your help....

I just checked and the Graphics Card is DirectX Compatible... I'll try installing the latest version of the driver :)

Thanks

Being DX compatable is not enough. It has to fully support DX7.

That means being capable of Hardware Transform and Lighting.

Without the graphics card figuring out those calculations, the CPU gets bogged down and doesn't have enough time to compleate all of the calculations to run the game.

So check to make sure it supports HT&L.

Thanks,
Jeff
