Yesterday a good old friend reminded me of the chats we citybuilders used to have and suggested that now we have a new citybuilding game at hand we should re-unite and also bring the new people together. So I've set up a channel like the good old days. :)
Here it goes :
-------------------
If you want to chat with fellow Children of the Nile prospective gamers, find out who is online, get a response real-time, ask someone here about their thoughts on a different game, or just ask about the weather and what kind of ice cream someone likes, there is a suggested place for Children of the Nile fans to talk about whatever they want: the #ChildrenoftheNile channel on gamesurge.net IRC.
Where is it?
The #ChildrenoftheNile IRC channel can be found at:
Server: irc.gamesurge.net Port: 6667 Channel: #ChildrenoftheNile
How do I get there?
From the web: gamesurge hosts a java IRC client that allows you to chat in the channel from your web browser. Head to http://www.gamesurge.net/chat/ - choose a nickname, enter your room as "#ChildrenoftheNile" (without the quotation marks), and click connect.
From mIRC or another IRC client: To connect to the channel with mIRC, you'll first need to add a gamesurge server to the server list. Click the Add button and then entering the server (either east.gamesurge.net or west.gamesurge.net) and port. After this is done, connect to this server, and enter #ChildrenoftheNile as the channel to join. If you need to enter a server name into other clients and gamesurge is not in the network list, you can enter irc.gamesurge.net for the IRC server name first.
Wait, back up: what is IRC?
Internet Relay Chat, or IRC, is a standard real-time chat service of the internet. To visit the #ChildrenoftheNile chat on IRC, you will have to use a special program for IRC chat or go through a java-based web version. The name of the IRC network that hosts the #ChildrenoftheNile channel is gamesurge. Visit http://www.gamesurge.net/ where you will find a link to the java chat, possibly along with links to IRC clients and some supplementary information about IRC.
There are several good IRC client programs out there. One very popular shareware program is called mIRC, which can be found at http://www.mirc.com/ There are also some good freeware clients; recommendations include Xircon and Trillian. IRC clients may be found at popular download sites, such as http://www.download.com/ and http://www.tucows.com/
