Game won't start

I have been playing Children of the NIle for a couple of months when yesterday the game decides not to load up.

I have re-installed several times and the same thing happens. I click on the desk top icon I hear the cd-rom spin up then I get the spinning disk for the game to start and it just quits. I've not had any problem with this until yesterday. I have a cd-rom and a dvd-rom I've used the game in both and the I get a repeat of the previous problem. I have no other problems with my other games just this game. I've tried with and without the patch same results. Any help would be welcome. :eek: :(

Have you changed something in your system since yesterday? Installed something new?
Edit: And have you already tried to clean the CD carefully?

The only change I've made is anew LCD moniter. I've cleaned both the cd-rom and the dvd-rom, and I have a cd cleaning kit that I cleaned the cd with. A couple of times that I re-installed the game it would start up but Ihad to click on the short cut a couple of times to before it would start. Then I would add the first patch and it would start but when I added the second patch it wouldn't start now it won't start at all.

Before reinstalling did you manually delete the COTN folder left over and temp files?

Perhaps when you installed your new monitor some of your settings changed unknowingly......make sure your resolution is set to one that works with the game. If that doesn't solve your problem.....well....I guess you can't get into the game itself to change anything so ..... bah....I guess that's all I got. :D

Yes I deleted the Tilted Mill folder before re-installing. I don't get any error messages from this it just won't start. Is it possible for the cd to have something go wrong with it and not be able to see anything wrong with the cd? :confused:

Maybe you should try out the 61.77 NVidia graphics driver. Maybe your new monitor and the latest drivers don't work well together.

The thing is I have been playing the game since last saturday on the new moniter and two weeks with Nvidia's newest drivers with no problems plus I can't see using older drivers just for one game. :(

Wait, now I am a bit confused.... I must have misunderstood you previously.

You were able to play the game fine WITH the new monitor for a while?

Yes that is correct. I also just remembered that before this happened that the game would stop for a few seconds and the screen would freeze but I could hear the music play. You could move your mouse around the screen and eventually it unfroze and I continued playing. Once I had to reboot to get out of the game. The above mentioned freeze would happen once sometimes twice durring game play. :(

Some monitors have a button called auto or reset, did you try to press it?

I have un-installed the game for now. It installs fine but won't play so I un-installed it. I also have just have noticed some big scratches on the outside edge of the cd. I don't know how they got there because none of my other game cds are scratched. I have a feeling this is probably the reason for the game not being able to start up. The dvd/cd rom can't read the data in these places to startup the game. Thanks for everyone's input and good gaming. :eek: :(
