DAMN IT!

Video card is up to date. So is my XP. And Sound card. And everything else as well. And still ... the game crashes. Everything got jammed. Ctrl+alt+del wont help!

We have an older second PC at home too. It's equipped with Radeon 9250 card, old (from 1998 I guess) SoundBlaster Live! sound card and XP (up to date). And no problem what so ever. The game runs perfectly. So is our "main" computer too new? I've attached the latest DxDiag.

Hmm......have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling? Also, perhaps your "newer" computer has a program or two running in the background that the "older" one doesn't and that's what is causing the problem? That's all I got :D Hope you get it worked out.

Think your video card drivers are the problem the drivers known to work with CotN by ATI are dated July 2004 through Sept 2004.

I did uninstall the older version of Catalyst ATi Driver. And (after downloading) did reinstall the newer one. And older as well as newer computer have same antivirus program + same firewall. Both are well known and common used. No other backround programs.

Although I don't know whether the driver version is the problem in your case or not, it is not uncommon that new drivers can cause errors. See all those threads where we had to suggest NVidia users to use the older 61.77 drivers instead of the new ones.

You may not like the answer but it is an answer that has worked. So it's up to you if want to try a known solution or do without the game.

You also have to uninstall the ATI control panel or Catalyst control center as well. Did you do that?

Your driver should be fine. There are reports of people using the new Catalyst 5.12 drivers. I myself use 4.10 from August 2004.

What does your computer have running in the background as applications or processes that might cause the game to crash?

Actually I meant have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game. Sometimes this helps if you original install got funky somehow. Worth a shot.

I am running catalyst 5.3 on Windows XP and they work well.
