Quite often when scrolling a map along it's perimiter, my game will suddenly freeze, and I can only get out of it by hitting the reset button on my PC. I have the latest patch installed and video drivers as recommended on this forum. Is there a fix for this, or is it a bug that has not been fixed? Thanks in advance. :)

Edit: Even more annoying, I just went back to the game to start a new scenario, I clicked on a scenario to play and it froze again!!

Also as a matter of interest, where does it show what version of the game you are running, I can't see it anywhere?

You are using the correct last certified driver for Nvidia and Windows 98. Have you tried using 16 bit color and a lower in-game resolution than 1028x768?

This could also be a problem related to your sound driver which is 3 years old and needs updating if you can find one. Make sure that your sound card is the selected Default Playback device in your hardware setups.

According to your DX diag you are using video drivers dated Nov 2003 those drivers are too old to work with CotN.

The latest drivers for Win98 and offered by Nvidia are 66.94 (http://www.nvidia.com/object/win9x_66.94).

Yes, I know this, but in the sticky thread, it recommends using the drivers I have installed now, I did have the newer ones, but followed advice from this forum!

Not according to the 'experts' on this forum, those are the ones I was advised to re install, I did have the newer ones!

Yes, but if the 53.04 drivers don't seem to do the job your only option is to try the newer one. What works on one computer doesn't always work on another one, so it's worth a shot. All you can do is keep trying.

Your dxdiag file doesn't reveal any real problems so the only other things that it could be a heat related cpu lockups/crashes, conflicting software usage of the memory, or the virus scanner.

There are no real cut and dried solutions, you just have to keep trying things until something works.

Ok, well I know it's not overheating, I have a massive fan running all the time, and I play games with 100% CPU usage at times, with no problems. No antivirus problems either as I always diable that and my firewall, in fact I Ctrl+Alt+Del and end task on everything except Explorer and Systray, when playing any games on my computer.

My virtual memory is adjusted up high enough, so I dunno, maybe it's my sound drivers, I believe they are a bit old, but I'm not sure if I can get updated ones for them.

It would appear that I ruffled some feathers with my original post by putting apostrophe's round the word, "expert".

My intention in doing this was to indicate to posters that I had indeed had 'expert' advice re graphics drivers and was asking if there was any other fix for this freeze. In retrospect I guess I could have emboldened it or used italics, but I didn't, I just used a quick way to highlight what i meant. It wasn't meant to be sarcastic, or belittle anyone in any way, I would never do that as I am very grateful to everyone who offers their valuable advice on this, and indeed other forums.

If I have offended anyone, then I apologise unreservedly, it really was not meant! Thanks.

I don't know about anyone else, but my feathers are not ruffled. BTW, the sticky thread you mentioned above was probably the one I started. ;)
