OK guys..I finally got the game to work. Went and bought a new video card and it plays great. Really enjoying it. Went to the website to get the patch and am tryin to update the game but it is telling me that it is unable to update. I am runnin the larger patch..legit game bought form wally world...and am using the one for the english game. Have uninstalled and reinstalled the game and went and redownloaded the patch but still no go. Any other suggestions? Thx, Naughti :p

In the past history of the citybuilder series there were two "english" versions of the patches, one for the U.S./Canada and Australia, and one for the U.K. That was under Sierra when the devs were Impressions Games.

You could not use the U.S. version of the patch to update a game bought in the U.K. because the isntaller would stop with a error message about a "invalid exe file".

I am not sure if that is still the case or not, but it is a possibility. Which country did you buy your game in?

As long as yu got your game from a reputable store with a good track record, there are still shops out there that knowingly or unknowingly sell illegal copies of games. So just because it was bought in a shop is no guaranty.

I am in the US and I bought my game from Walmart. I understand the pirated game situation but I surely hope that is not the case here. Thanks for the input, Naughti

Buying it from WalMart should not be a problem.

Uninstall CotN. Do a disk cleanup and defragmentation. Deactivate your virus scanner and any other background apps. Install CotN, again. Now install the patch.

Are you sure you downloaded the US patch (37.5 MB) and not the UK one (1.7 MB)?

One patch will work, the other will give a compatibility error. Australia (and I suppose New Zealand) use the UK patch.

These patches look at specific files (esp. the COTN.exe) and if the contents aren't what they expect the patch won't install.
So if neither patch installs then either the game is already patched or one of the files has been modified (virus or no-cd patch?).
