I don't know if it's my system or not, but my specs are about P2 533Mhz, with a NVIDIA TNT2 (I think) card and my computer's about 8 years old. There's a lot of lag, but I can still play the game.

That's amazing, considering that the TNT2 cards do not support Transform & Lighting effects nor do they support pixel shaders.

I am surprised that the game will even start for you.
