My problem is still the speed of the game, i.e. lack of speeding up. If I press + key, my people hardly move. The size of the city makes no difference here. If I now want to go back to "normal speed", I have to start the scenario all over from zero point. Anyone else has this?
I've asked this already and my dxdiag revealed nothing special. My machine is fairly new and it meets the requirements well enough; the swap file is bigger now though. There are no newer ATI drivers for laptops (don't want to get mixed up with the other drivers (like Omega) unless I'll be guided through the installation). The drivers or the laptop's other qualities proved not to be the issue here, because I some time ago downloaded Helle's Akhetaten save: I was amazed by the speed of the people!!! The speed is no problem once it is there!
Ok, I've done all the 15 scenarios of the grand campaigns. I put CotN aside for a while in order to play another game set in ancient Egypt. I'm coming to the point of this story, be patient. In this game I've made a "discovery" I never thought of before: I needed to reassign some of the control keys in order for them to work, since my laptop, like most laptops, have no numeric keypad! When you want to speed up in CotN you use the + key of the numeric pad, not the other + key (+?\ combination), right?
Is there anything to be done in here? Is it possible to change the speeding key in CotN and use some other key that is not in the numeric pad?
I wish I could try one of the user-created scenarios or the pyramid building contest (for fun only :D ) but without the possibility to speed up / slow down when needed it's not going to be fun. Remaking of the cotn ini file is not really an option when I have to use that speed through out the whole scenario and can't change it easily (?), isn't that right? Pausing all the time is not an option either nor is letting the game play by itself while I go shopping or whatever, that is not my idea of playing and having fun.
Seemes to be a long story, sorry, but thank you for reading this far. :) :)
