I have done with the didacticiel. Now, I would like to play a scenario or campaign but after clicking on a city to load, it crashes and goes back to my desktop.I have a 1.5 gb cpu and 32 mb graphic card (hercule). I have been in the option menu to select max performances and lower resolution but it continues to crash. Meanwhile, it's possible to load the last save of the didacticiel I have finished.

What can I do ? It's very disappoiting to by a game that doesn't run. I have the minimum requirements to run this game normally. Help please.

From your dxdiag file (in thread http://www.tiltedmill.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5717) I see that your graohics card has a Kyro-chip on it. I don't know if that's supported by CotN. Your drivers are somewhat outdated also, they are from 2001.

You might also consider to update your sound drivers, they also are from 2001 and might be outdated.

Hope this helps, even if it not really good news...

Tobing, how do you re-actualize your drivers? I've tried that on mine (though they only are 5 months old). I've downloaded the newer ones, but couldn't install most of them. :(

I can only tell for graphics drivers on my PC (which contains an ATi-Card):
Step 1: Uninstall the current driver. This sets your PC back to standard VGA.
Uninstallation is done using the Control Panel -> Software / Add or Remove Programs. For ATi there is also some tool available to wipe out some files which may not be completely uninstalled.
Step 2: Reboot.
Step 3: Now install the new driver.
Step 4: Reboot again.

The procedure should be essentially the same for all graphics cards.

To be save in case the new driver doesn't work, make sure that you have an installable driver ready which works (e.g. the one which is currently installed). Then, in case the PC won't reboot after Step 4 you can boot into save mode and use the above procedure with an older driver version.

This IS somewhat cumbersome. Because it MAY happen that your graphics card will not work correctly with some new driver version. The only one to blame for this is the graphics cards manufacturers. But anyway, if the newer driver works usually there will be improvements you would not wish to miss.

Thanks, I'll try that (though I'm not sure I'm not going to send my PC to heaven...

The most important thing is to have different driver versions ready, the one which is known to work, and at least one newer version... and maybe you want to save some personal data, but you do backups regularly anyway, don't you?

hemmmm... backups.... let me check in my dictionnary first... :D
How do you save your former drivers?

I do not save my current drivers, I find out which version they are and get me that version from the manufacturers website. Or I have the original driver CD ready which accompanied the graphics card.

Pascal your video drivers are too old to play CotN. You need driver 61.77 for your card.

I don't think he can use the 61.77 drivers since he's using a laptop and a GeForce2 Go might simply not be good enough to let CotN play properly on the laptop.

PASCAL you CANNOT play COTN on this laptop!
Your Nvidia-graficchip has only the size of

Display Memory: 16.0 MB ..so says your dxdiag

To Mouse:
Built-in grafic-chips in laptops are NOT to be fitted with drivers from the Nvidia-page!!!

Laptop-owners have to go to the manufactorer and get a driver there

I can`t identify your notebook. It seems quite "old"..may be you`ll find it as I don`t know the model-name.

Thanks for your help :)
My computer it's a Toshiba Satellite 3000-214
http://fr.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=FR
I know it's only a 16Mb (display) but for example, SIMS2 (need 32Mb too) works well ... ...and when I read other topics here, it seems that other people (even with display card 32Mb) have the same problem

Pentium® III or Athlon® 800 MHz processor or higher
Windows® 98/2000/ME/XP operating system
128 MB of RAM (256 MB required for Windows® XP)
1.1 GB uncompressed free hard drive space

A 100% Windows® 98/2000/ME/XP-compatible computer system including:
DirectX® 9.0b
100% DirectX® 9-compliant true 16 bit sound card and drivers
100% DirectX® 9-compliant 32 MB video card and drivers
100% Windows® 98/2000/ME/XP -compatible mouse and drivers
100% Windows® 98/2000/ME/XP -compatible keyboard
100% Windows® 98/2000/ME/XP -compatible quad speed (600 K/sec sustained transfer rate) CD-ROM drive and drivers
Recommended:

Pentium® 4 or Athlon® 2.0 GHz processor
512 MB of RAM
64 MB video card will full Direct 9.0 support
Also, please, note that the GeForce 2 Go card does not support "pixel shader effects" which are used by Children of the Nile. See this list (http://www.tiltedmill.com/forums/showpost.php?p=51052&postcount=3) I posted in another thread. This could be another problem with your current setup.

I found this rather old article on Nvidia cards dated from 2003 (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=10602), but it confirms that Nvidia cards from that time period do have a problem with pixel shader 2.0 which is a inherent DirectX 9 feature.

Hello Pascal,

I have just had a look at Toshibas......
The graphic and sound-drivers you are using at the moment are the only ones available for your laptop.
There are no others, you can`t upgrade anything.

Each game is unique. You cannot assume that just because GAME "A" works on my system, GAME "B" will also.
