Why is it that the number of resolution options in the Main Menu Settings varies. Sometimes there is only the choice of 6 resolutions , variations of 1024 and 800 available ,and at other times there are far more options available. I cannot see any way of making the additional resolutions appear in the pick list , as I want to use one of the other ones it is frustrating hoping that it will be displayed.

The screen resolutions displayed in the in-game list are dependant on what your current hardware and driver configuration will support. To get the other resolutions to display, you need to ensure that the combination of your video card, video card driver, monitor, and directx version will support the desired combination.

I appreciate that but why do the number of available resolutions sometimes only show the 4 options for 800 and 1024 and at other times there are many more shown. There seems to be no logic in when the additional ones are shown as I am always running on the same configuration on my PC

Seems like your system may be booting drivers inconsistently if this is what you are seeing.

The game literally displays the options that your system believes it can handle based on the information from DX 9.0c. These choices should only change if drivers, or hardware changes- not from boot to boot or each time you play.

If you are seeing inconstant options I would check your system with the standard, defrag & Spyware/hi-jacker scans.

(IE- Lavasoft's Adware & or Spybot search and destroy.)

Yes, it does sound odd that your resolutions are changing from time to time.

Did you remember to uninstall old driver versions before you installed any updated versions? Did you change video cards and didn't uninstall the old software and drivers before putting in the new card and driver/software?

I have not updated my system with anything for more than a year and I run Ad Aware every day. When I installed COTN it was reported that my DirectX was up-to-date and so itwas not installed rom the disc.
