Hey Guys,

Well I installed children of the Nile off a cd i got, and wen I clicked on it for the first time to play it, it came up with a box with:
"Children of the Nile has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
And it says send and don't send to Microsoft. This box keeps coming up each time I try and open it, is there any solutions to the Problem.
I am running XP Home Sp2 and Its a new brand new computer everything is updated but I seemingly can't find an answer.

I would try to uninstall, close the computer, and then reinstall the game, while installing close antivirus which can interfere..

Hey man, Well I formatted the computer before and re-installed the program and I still have the same Problem, I have Trend Micro 2005 and I stopped it and all it's belonging processes but I still have exactly the same problem.

I have re-installed and Uninstalled atleast three times, but no luck!!. I have all the required requirements, I really want to play this game it looks really great, But it's the Demo Version, I got off the APC Mag, im in Australia. Is there like any patches, I know one is 37MB but it's too big for me to download as I am on dial up, what other ways is there to fix my problem!!..

If you go to the official site and click on patch you will see a list of all the patches. If you do have the american version you can look further down and there is a smaller patch, (between 6 and 7MB). I don't think it fixes everything, but it should probably help some.

If it's the demo, there isn't a patch I'm afraid.

Can you post your dxdiag please?

CLick START then RUN. Type 'dxdia' without the quotes. Click RUN or OK. Wait for the app to check out your system. Then click on the SAVE button near the bottom of the app screen. Save the file some place you can find it. Then come back here post a new message in this thread. Use the Manage Attachments button below to open the attachments windows. Click on BROWSE and find the dxdiag.txt file you saved. Select it and click on UPLOAD. When the file is uploaded click on the CLOSE WINDOW button. Then click on the SUBMIT REPLY button to upload your message and file to the board.

It appears that you have no video drivers installed except for the standard VGA drivers. Think you might have have an on board video card if that is the case installing drivers for it would improve video performance. That doesn't mean that you will be able to play CotN.

First dxdiag I've seen without a video card listed.

If you don't have a video card or onboard videos sysetm like Intel's that is DirectX 9 compliant you will have to get a card that is and install one.

Check this post for a list of cards that should work:

I would recommend a ATI 9800 Pro or X300, or Nvidia Geforce 2, 3,4 or FX.

hello there my fellow australian...hehe
found the following msg in your dx diag file under the notes for directx

Display Tab 1: The system is using the generic video driver. Please install video driver provided by the hardware manufacturer. Direct3D functionality not available. You should verify that the driver is a final version from the hardware manufacturer.

so that could well be your problem as mouse has suggested. it does seem that many people are how ever realizing that just because you can run the demo does not mean you can run the game...

and I am in the process now of finding out wich version of the game us aussie's will be getting so we may know what patch to use.

I have the US version but I did not buy it on australia, a dear freind from the US sent it to me :D

so firstly keep an eye on this thread for more info about your dxdiag and what you may require to help get the game running...I am afraid that I am not very compter savy but there are many here that are and will provide you with all the info you require.
secondly I will get back to you on the version type.

If it turns out you do have a NVidia card, I would suggest you install the 61.77 July 2004 (http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-2k_archive.html) driver set instead of the ones you got with the card. This set has been the most reliable of the ones currently offered.

Othewise, if its another brand card then install the drivers you got with the card and then check the manufacturer's website for any updated versions.

Note, many driver installs require that you uninstall the currently installed driver before you install another driver set, so you may want to check for a updated version just so you don't have to go back and uninstall what you just installed.

Standard VGA driver should not be uninstalled before installing a brand name driver. The standard VGA driver is the basis of all video driver installs for all video cards under windows.

Correct, just any previous NVidia driver (if that is what have) or ATI driver (if that is what you have) should be uninstalled. IN this case you don't have them currently installed.

The base VGA drive must remain.

Hey Thanks Guys for the help, Im not a real computer Wizard, I only really Use them to do my assignments and other school work. But I come across this game which looked kool so id thought I would have a look at it. And my luck it didn't work. But any way I'll try all your suggestions or answers you have given me I couldn't find what Video Card I am supposed to have, my computer says I have one but it is not telling me what one so im just downloading the Nvidia July version that Keith has supplied thanks keith.

Angie Yeah Not sure what version Us Aussies have but I got my game off the APC Mag from the Narrandera Newsagent, 1hrs drive west of Wagga Wagga.
Yeah so im just not sure what patch to download or even if there is one, but according to what i've read there is no patch for the Demo so well, im so sad I can't get to play the game as yet.

Ok Guys It's well appreciated and Ill keep all the info you have given me to try and fix this game problem...

I would not install those Nvidia drivers you are downloading just yet, not until you I.D. the video card you have. You may just have to open the case and take a look at the card.

It is possible that your system may just have a onboard graphics setup on the motherboard and not a seperate video card. For one, Intel makes such onboard graphics setups, others may as well.

I would check with the place you bought your machine at and see what it is they put in your case.

If you have a CD with the driver updates on them does it have any info on it. Sometimes when you run the installer it says who it is that made it. You can abort the install before you you actually click the final button to proceed with the installation itself in most cases.

You can download Everest Home Edition (it's free) and it will tell you what video card/on board video is on your system. That way you can get the correct video drivers for your system.

OK so I am assuming that it is a demo disc? and not the full game? is that right sean?
in the case of it being a demo disc there is no need nor want for a patch as soon as you get it running you can play it just fine....when you find it time to buy the full game that is when you will need the patch. will let you know what patch you will need as soon as I know....either that or one of the other LUMINARY'S will know and pass it on.

angie...hehe have not been called angie in a LOOOONG time.
