sitearm

Dog of the Sun: * shocked * Nothing is higher than Luminary... except maybe Developer :D !
The order of the gods is...
Developers (hallowed be their names... but only if they're working on the next patch! * and after that the next game! *)
Luminaries (saints, every one of them... * snif * )
Lesser Mortals with Different Post Counts (you and me... * we can aspire * )
Vagrant 0 and up...
Villager 25 and up...
Craftsman 50 and up...
Shopkeeper 150 and up...
Overseer 300 and up...
Commander 600 and up...
Scribe 1000 and up...
???
Caveats:
Apparently TM changes things every once in a while

Yes ... you are indeed correct.
I will leave it to someone else to see what (if anything) happens when the 1500 mark is breeched.
Meantime, I will return to my imposed silence.

Only posts in the "official" forums are counted. Posts in The Tilted Mill and The Outside World don't count toward promotions. :(
That is why SoM has no acheieve a higher ranking. He has a ton of posts in the "unofficial" forums. Unfortunately for us beta testers, our posts in the beta forums didn't count either. Else one of us surely would know by now what happens after 1500 or 2000. :D
Maybe nothing happens? ;)

Yes .... I have already been "docked" circa 50 or more posts last October. I became a Scribe not once but twice. :p Whatever happens in the far distant future, at least this will remain a unique feat!!! :o

Forgive my ignorance but how do people achieve a "Luminary" rank? (I am not aspiring, just wondering)
Keith

All the Luminaries were chosen by Tilted Mill. You can't get the rank by posting.

Thanks Keith. I gathered that, I was just wondering why they were selected... contributions to earlier games, relationships, games reviewers.. etc etc

What Keith said - Children of the Nile luminaries were volunteers selected per thread info link here (http://www.tiltedmill.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118) and web info link here (http://www.immortalcities.com/cotn/luminaries/about.php). Don't know if Tilted Mill will have similar program for Caesar IV.

Thanks Sitearm, my curiousity is satisfied now! And I note this thread is outdated as you are a scribe now... smile. Shame we can't select our own title as I noticed Phil suggested. I'd go for "poet".

Its a good idea (having now read the original thread and weblink). I was delighted to see some of the same people posting here that I know and beta-tested with from the earlier CBing efforts at Impressions. It is good to build from a strong support base!

Yep, some of us have been around a long long time. Many of us got a mention in the game credits, which is kind of cool. ;) While I was around to play Caesar III, the first one I helped in testing was Pharaoh.

All the luminaries are actually chosen by God so it's no good aspiring to that rank if your soul is besmirched with sin or other such naughtiness. Sarcastic, critical or negative posts result not in points meaning prizes but in points being deducted. :D Actually that's a good idea. It would sort out the meaninless trolls ;)

Actually, if it were not for the Luminary status, I would have had the title of Pharaoh well over a year ago. ;)
When VUG/Sierra was going to switch messageboard software and finally get rid of that terrible WebX (Web Crossing) software they used to use, the admins were taking suggestions from the moderators. I and few other moderators were advocating hard for not having post counts. Unfortunately, the admins didn't listen.

Is there a purpose to ranking posters at all? I was also curious as to the specifics of the Luminaries functions - I know Keith and others assist in moderating the forums and posting relevant and helpful stuff, but one Luminary has only posted 60+ times and I've only seen him/her online once. This is not to criticise btw, just curious that's all!
Keith
06-25-2006, 02:09 PM
We ar not required to do anything actually. It's all voluntary. We were supposed to help spread the word about Children of the Nile. They gave us a tidbit or two about the CotN before it was finally released, but it wasn't anything major.

So...erm...what's the point of all the titles? I do like them, but they really are just a feature yeah?
Keith
06-26-2006, 04:27 AM
People like them.
TM came up with the Luminary idea. We probably won't get any early info on Caesar IV unless VUG/Sierra says okay and, in my opinion, that is not likely.

I'd imagine they'll just keep this forum going, wouldn't they?
Keith
06-26-2006, 08:13 AM
Hard to say. My guess is that those of us with Luminary titles will retain them. Whether they will provide us any advantage in regards to Caesar IV, it's just my guess, but I think "not."
the Luminaries functions - I know Keith and others assist in moderating the forums and posting relevant and helpful stuff,
The Luminaries are not moderating these forums, right? Only our Webmaster Jeremiah is doing that. :)
Of course Luminaries help other players, post relevant stuff like many other posters do. :)
Keith
06-26-2006, 03:36 PM
Right. We are not moderators here. We are merely players and "helpers" when we feel the urge.

@Hibernian! :) Yours is a good question!
When I joined these forums I was curious about titles too and figured out the (original) break points for each level. I realized I could post a lotta c..p (excuse my language) and get post points. So racking up points for points' sake began to seem.. pointless. I still posted a lot *coff* tho I did go back and delete some of my less compelling items.
I decided the real value of forums is being friendly and helpful and sharing useful insights and ideas and tips and humour and having cool discussions and such. There is no rating system in place for that... and I am not sure I would want one cos we are each contributing here in our own ways... :)
So...erm...what's the point of all the titles? I do like them, but they really are just a feature yeah?

Oh I do. Good fun sometimes! :)
Then you see the same topics appearing again and again and again........
It seems people were more concientious then. New topic, new thread. Sounds good but when topics start to repeat the threads start to multiply. Now it seems most threads go off topic alot more, with much more crosslinking. Less organised, but less volume.
