Demo not starting

Hi, can someone pls help:
the demo crashes at launch, i get an error msg, drwatson's log says
Exception: c0000005 (access violation), tried killing all non-vital processes
(firewall & so.),

Try updating your audio drivers. They are 2002 and a little old.

thanks Keith, got a fresh driver pack from nvidia (http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_udp_win2k_4.27) , instaled the audio driver but it still doesn't start. (did refresh the DxDiag)
btw. didn't have such a problem yet... with no demo or game, also tried to download the demo from another source, reinstalled, same result

The only thing that I can see that might be a problem is service pack 3.
You're running Windows 2000 Professional, Service Pack 3, and SP4 is currently the latest one available. I don't know why this would keep you from playing the game, but try updating to SP4 and trying the demo again, and let us know either way whether it works. Thanks.

thanks Hans. ..hmm, really wanted to avoid the SP4, but anyway, did install it & guest what.. still the same crash (DxDiag updated)

have you tried geting rid of this and reinstalling directx

DirectX Files Tab: The file mfc42.dll is incorrectly installed in the Windows folder and should be deleted.
