Hey Twister78,

It looks like your video card drivers are a little out of date. Try getting the latest version from ATI.com and giving that a shot.

Cheers,
-Chris

Thanks for Your hint, but there is no new driver for Mobility Radeon from Toshiba (as Ati is not providing drivers for Mobility cards). Any other hint, please please :)

try going to http://www.omegadrivers.net/ and get a driver from them they try to make theirs compatable with all ATI chip sets look for the radion FAQ if you need some more help

I checked through ATI and Tobshiba's site and neither have a update to the card you have.

I did take a look at the list of manufactures that use the Mobility Radeon 9600 cards and there are quite a few. I tried Dell and they do have a driver update for the Mobitlity Radeon 9600 card used in their Inspiron 8600 notebook.

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/format.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&SystemID=INS_PNT_P4M_8600&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=5311&devlib=6&category=6&releaseid=R85434

I normally wouldn't recommend using a driver from a different source, but you can always rollback if you run into a snag.

You can also post a message on the Toshiba section of a computing forum and ask about a source for a driver update:

http://community.compuserve.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?webtag=ws-laptop&nav=start

This is a 3rd party forum and not sponsored by Toshiba, but they did provide the link. The link below is one to their ATI FAQ section of that forum:

Interesting...I just took a quick browse through that FAQ file it seems that some ATIs hav been causing shutdowns in some computers:

ATI Catalyst Drivers FAQ
Revision 1.00
November 5, 2003
Several Laptop Computing Forum users have reported apparent video problems that cause system instability or shutdown. The affected models are:
Satellite 1110, 1115, 1905 (Mobility RADEON)
Tecra S1 (Mobility RADEON 9000)
The following solutions have worked for some forum members. Try them at your own risk. They are strictly unofficial. Please let us know your results or make suggestions if you have additional ideas.
Solution 1: Update the system BIOS
Some of the affected models have incorporated an updated VGA BIOS into the system BIOS that MAY have improved the stability of the ATI chip with the current driver. Go to
http://ts.toshiba.com (http://ts.toshiba.com/)
and find the most recent BIOS image for your system before trying anything else.
***BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH THE REMAINING SOLUTIONS, PLEASE UNINSTALL YOUR CURRENT VIDEO DRIVER***
Solution 2: Use a "ready-made" graphics driver.
At one time, there were three known repositories for custom ATI graphics drivers. Only two remain as of this writing. If you use one of these repositories to get your new driver, you may have to manually extract and install the driver in order to use it.
http://www.s-seven.net/ati
http://www.omegacorner.com/ati
Solution 3: Modify a base-reference driver from ATI
As with NVIDIA's GeForce Go notebook graphics chips, the ATI Mobility chips are derived from their desktop cousins and can use the same driver. However, the driver cannot automatically recognize these chips; like NVIDIA, ATI chooses not to include these chips because it sends only the design specs to manufacturers, who in turn customize the chips to fit a particular set of notebook features.
It is possible to modify the setup information files (*.INF) within a reference driver so that the driver can be installed. This technique has been used by users of systems with NVIDIA-based video systems, and the following uses a variant of the process for ATI-based video systems.
>>>To install a modified Catalyst driver set:
1. Obtain the base-reference driver for the RADEON family from one of these pages:
http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html
http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/powered.html
CAUTION: This driver is fairly large and could take several hours to download on a slow connection. Try the componentized version to reduce the chance of a corrupted download.
2. Locate the downloaded component(s) and run them to create an ATI folder on the root directory of the C: drive. Do not run the installers; just get those components into that folder.
3. Download the Mobility Driver Modder from Patje's Mobility Modding Page at
http://www.driverheaven.net/patje/
Save the file to the Windows desktop.
4. Double-click the download and point it to the ATI folder created in Step 2. Then click "Start MOD" to modify the setup information for the reference driver. Three separate dialogs will appear to indicate success.
5. Next, run the installers in this order, rebooting after each one. (Windows will nag about unsigned drivers during this process; click "Continue Anyway" if you see warning messages.)
a. Core Driver
b. ATI Control Panel
c. HydraVision (optional)
A new and hopefully more stable driver should now be installed. Update DirectX as needed for best performance with games.
GAMERS PLEASE NOTE: A new feature of the Catalyst drivers known as VPU Recover may interfere with the operation of certain titles. If you have trouble starting a particular game, disable this feature.
