Has anyone had a problem with the Son of Ra Sandbox scenario. I started fine until my city got large with 15 Nobles etc when it started to FPS lag and crash to desk top repeatedly 5 mins after the last save file. I tried to upload the save file for anyone to try but it was larger than 6mb limit. Its so frustrating specially when I spent approx 10 hours bulding it.

I tried all the game settings from average to Low with the same result.

Imperius Leader: Sorry, haven't tried that one...

The Devs can increase the upload limit for you.

Feel your pain... :( hang in there... can hear the emergency tech siren now...

Hi Greg, see attached the game mentioned in my post. As I said 5 mins after the save point it crashed to desktop of the three or four times I reloaded the game. The only thing I did differently the last time was to send the army to the Beduin city.

If anyone else wants to try the saved game please do and let me know if the same thing happens to you

It isn't crashing here. I've run through 45 minutes and it hasn't crashed.

Would it be possible for you to post your DxDiag to aid in troubleshooting?

Hi Hans

I'll give it another go tonight when I get back from work. If it crashes again I'll make a copy of the error message that came up, before crashing to desktop, and include my DxDiag...Many thanks for your help

Hi Hans: I tried the game again and it ran without CTD, however, the game FPS was lagging terribly. Please find attached my DXdiag file.

You're running what looks to be older NVidia drivers. Click here (http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_61.77) to download the latest drivers for XP. Try that and let us know if it helps (I'm not just saying that, we've seen some definite problems caused by old drivers).

I have a similar problem. I start a scenario and after a while I get a CTD. I played Son of Ra for about an hour before the crash. Voice of Sobek took about 4 hours of continuous play to crash. I have all the most recent drivers available from Toshiba for my laptop. The last time I had this kind of problem on this system the program had a memory leak and I ran out of available memory after a while. This happened with DAOC for a short time til they fixed it. I attached a copy of my dxdiag for you to look at.

Do you have save games before these crashes? If so, it would help us if you posted them. Thanks.

I turned off the sound and this time it went 4 and a half hours before crashing just now. Here is the last autosave about 5 minutes before the crash.

I tried both Morbhan and Imperius's games on my machine and they both were very lagged but no CTD....had them both runnin about hour each.
The lag was a bit of a concern though considering I had not had a problem with it up untill now.

added my own dxdiag just incase

Today I discovered a new problem that may be related. I figured if I can't finish a game I can get some graph paper and sketch out my city. I loaded Son of Ra and paused the game. About 45 minutes later my laptop turned itself off. It did NOT exit windows properly. The only description is someone turned the power off in the middle of the game. The laptop was plugged in and had the power pack in so there was not a problem with no power. This has happened 4 times now. If I stay in paused mode with nothing on the map while I look for resources and graph them, my computer turns itself off in the middle of what I am doing. When I reboot without touching the cord or powerpack, Windows reports I am on AC power and have a full powerpack. This never happens in any other program.

I did some testing this morning. The program turns off my computer after 10 minutes of no activity. I do normally run a screen saver so I turned that off. Same thing, 10 minutes no activity = computer turned off. I disabled the power save mode even though that takes 30 minutes to start but no help.

@Morbhan
do have a look into system/energy options...............
it sounds a though there is one option set to "energy off" after 10 minutes no pc-activity............just to make sure

The first of the power save options takes effect after 25 minumtes of no activity and I completely uninstalled the Toshiba power management program. I also turned off Windows XP power management with no effect. Also I can run any other program and walk away for 20 minutes and it does not power down. It only goes into standby after 30 minutes of no activity. That is different than what this is doing. Standby shuts down but windows remembers what programs I am running and restarts them when I come back. This has the same effect as pulling the plug on a desktop while the program is running.

Alright then, no power-switch off
Is ist possible that your laptop heats up and THEN shuts down?
Only as an example........so far I am only on the demo while waiting for the European Full Version, but I have noticed while playing the demo that my third from four ventilators get in action during gaming........in other words.........this game is really using some power and demands plenty.
On the frontside the temperature-gauge shows up to 55 degrees which I don`t get with most of my other games.

It sounds silly, but it could explain the shutdowns. We had a laptop that would overheat and display the same symptoms you describe. Keeping the machine cool helped solve the problem.

The laptop is sitting in my lap and is not even hot when it shuts down. If I actively move around in the game it does not shut down. it only shuts down when the game is paused and I am not doing anything at all with the computer. If I am playing the game it crashes to the desktop after about 4 hours. Why would it run longer when I am actually playing than it does paused with nothing added to the map if it was overheating? I would think it would overheat faster when the computer is doing something in the game instead of paused. Also I can immediately reboot and continue using the computer. The only time I have overheated this machine, it refused to reboot until it had cooled and it felt very hot on the bottom. When the game turns off my computer, it feels cool to the touch and will immediately reboot.
