Anybody hear about a patch for the game, yet? I hate to say it, but it really does need one already.

I'm sure they are consdiering it and collecting reports to make sure that any potential patch will address the widest number of known problems.

I'm curious to know exactly what you think needs patched, how you determined it needed patched (99% of all "bugs" are user error), and whether you realize the game isn't even released worldwide yet?

Laborers walking in place, game crashes, inabillity to move resources accross rivers, etc... are user errors? I think not. Even if only 1% of the errors are non-user related, it is enough reason to put out a patch. We did not barter for a defective game.

I must be really very lucky! I have not got these many bugs like others, I mean a patch will be wellcome and I am sure it is being addressed, but I think it would be better if people play some more time so that most of the bugs will be addressed, since IMHO the game runs pretty smoothly even with tese that seem to me minor bugs.

I agree I think a patch is needed. I am really frustrated I have the lazy laborer problem and I can't continue my game. Its very frustrating to know you have everything right and its not your fault. I don't want to start my city all over again. I am in the first scanario. :( Its better to get a patch to fix it rather than have frustrated players. Besides don't forget lots of times bugs are found after widespread play.

Megalos: Well they're up to saying "if" a patch were posted it would be tested for compatibility with player maps being made now.
Conservatively though I'd make a new map

I agree with comments a patch is likely in the works but I understand TM's point of view not to promise a date until they're closer to sure.

Look at the hoo-rah about demo... took a week or two to hear back...

My vote: make it work to ship quarried blocks across your river... that's such a neat little setup to build your own barges, landings, ships, quarries, monuments... "the whole nine yards"... but enough players have posted to show it's bugged

'Inability to move resources across rivers' is a bug as it's happening to quite a few people ... not everyone all the time, but probably enough to make it a bug.

The crashes are happening to very few people and are, presumably, system-related as the vast majority of people are crashless. This may need system tweaking rather than a patch.

The labourer problem has been proved, in several cases, to be user-related rather than a bug. In other cases a save-game would be useful to find out if it really is a bug.

The one bug I know of that is universal and will eventually need a patch is the 'replay scenario' leading to not being able to continue the campaign.

I can't get this uploaded I think because I have aol and 56k modem for a 3m file. I email any one the save file as an attachment so they can look at it?

Send it to me, I'll check to see what's happening in your game. I'll send you my email in private message after this.

Another penny in the pond I haven't seen the lazy laborer problem. Right now I have a mere 16 laborers with 4 overseers. Overseer 1 in mining emeralds, Overseer 2 is mining tin, Overseer 3 is mining gold, and Overseer 4 is happily building pyramids and getting his 4 laborers to haul statues and stele. As for the other "bugs" most are small or random in nature not game stopping or fatal.
Many of the "bugs" are hardware/system related or user related since they aren't being experienced by everybody.

Got that uploaded to you guys. You would think I took the time to rebuild my pc, get a new video card, add more memory, I could take the time to switch out my poor 56k modem and get dsl or cable... well maybe one day I will get out of the horse and buggy internet age. :D Thank you for looking at that for me. And just incase you didn't notice there is large basalt statues on both sides of the river one in a trade thingy some at the quarry site. I only started quarrying because they wouldn't take it from the trade thingy. That didn't help either. So it can't be that those barges got stuck. The closest source isn't over water.

any fix on the bug anyone? I know several of my houses were facing wrong way and people were getting stuck but when I deleted the houses it didn't help.

I'm still playing your saved game that you sent me and tracking everyone in that city. I found 1 more weird thing that one of 2 Overseers is "getting stuck" inside of the "warehouse" of the Cult Temple. Give me some times...

I've been playing it too ... there isn't a problem with the labourers per se ... they will happily quarry, build a pyramid, or build freestanding statues (including large ones). I'm trying experiments to force them to build the cult temple statue but haven't succeeded yet ...

I am still trying too... you know I always said I like a challenging game. And CotN is very challenging. This is just not the kind of challenge I meant. Thank you for all your hard work.

I hope when the do bring out a patch they will do something about the FPS lag. It gets very frustrating when you build a really large nice looking city and movement starts to grind to a slow jumpy walk or complete stop (CTD).

Well I've solved it, but not in the most ideal way.

The labourers would do absolutely everything they are required to ... except for building the cult temple statue. Obviously they weren't recognising it was necessary for some reason.

So I demolished and rebuilt the cult temple (you had loads of bricks luckily so it didn't take too long) and they went and picked up a statue straight away.

But in my game, it won't happen as the way it did as in yours. I demolished the Cult Temple too, rebuild as exact location as it was, but my Laborers wouldn't mind to pick up a Large Statue to the C.T. They just seat in their houses and sing the song of fish and crab they like :p... And now, I have no idea why they wouldn't move an inch

The only other things I did first was demolish a labourer's house belonging to a stuck labourer and rebuilt it elsewhere, stopped imports of both limestones & small statues, and built a large statue (colossal seated pharaoh) to check if they would do that.

Thanks guys. I think we still know there is a bug. I am not the only one who has had trouble with the cult temples and the statues not being brought by laborers. Granted I don't build games but maybe the bug isn't the barges just getting stuck. Maybe part of the bug is the laborors are not recognizing the need to finish the temple. Any thoughts guys?

Well glad to say I've never had a problem getting my laborers to do what ever I needed including large statues for Cult Temples :D

GillB
11-19-2004, 02:46 AM
Luckily I've never had that problem either ... but in yncariad's savegame, they definitely weren't recognising that the cult temple needed a statue ... the overseers did as they were patiently waiting every day, but the labourers didn't.

A problem I got with dedicating cult temple in Khmun has been that there was a stuck statue close to barge landing. Even if I had more statues at cargo drop off, mostly laborers staied at home waiting. Then I noticed that four of them sometimes went to the stuck statue, tried to pull and left.
I then built a second cult temple and laborers immediatly went to the cargo drop off and hauled a statue to the temple.
So I think that one problem can be that when a building item is dedicated to a construction and cannot be delivered, it blocks the construction.

Vic 4 did they take the stuck statue or get another from your supplies?

well I tore down the temple and after waiting patiently for it to build again and they FINALLY got the statue to temple. I finally won my scenario and went happily on to Bubastis. :D I thank everyone for you help. I will try this next time too. If any tech people are listening please fix that bug in the patch its very very annoying.

I will say I have never been one of the unlucky people who discovered a bug before. I have such a greater respect for beta testers now. He he he :p
