You may want to go into your start menu, press uninstall and see if the screen comes up. It should give you three options, uninstall, reinstall and -something else. If that doesn't work look for dust on the disk.

Two thoughts come to mind.
1. do you by any chance have a Sony drive?
2. have you tried cleaning the drive .

I'm not an expert on this one but here's a link that should help:
http://www.tiltedmill.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4126
It's a post by Keith, one of the luminaries, which has detailed instructions for this problem.

Xxviperxx, in addition to what has been said, run the LAUNCH ANAYSIS utility from the game's exe right click menu. Right click on the game exe file and select Launch Analysis. The file will be saved in your C:\ root directory as AnalysisLog.sr0. Then post it as a file attachment to a new post in this thread using the MANAGE ATTACHMENTS button below.
Also, since you have a ATI card, open your ATI control panel and try turning the FAST WRITE option off and see if the game will load.

Judy Ann: Suggest you go ahead and post it. That way the Devs can just grab it when they jump back in this thread.
Go back to your original message, click "Edit", use "ManageAttachments" at the bottom. :)

Xxviperxx,
Here's what Sony had to say:
"It appears that this users drive is bad or has an anomaly. It would be best to use a different drive. If these problems continue with a different drive, try uninstalling Blindwrite Suite. After uninstalling, make sure that <pcatip.sys> and <pcouffin.sys> have been removed. If not, try to delete them and rebooting. "
Please let us know if either of these suggestions work.
Judy Ann,
Please post your analysis.log file when you get a chance.
Thanks,
Greg
