View Full Version : I am so pissed at myself!

I finally was getting somewhere, my complainers had died back, health and religion care was going well, built my first oblisk, got plenty of limestone and finelimestone in stock to finish build my small pyramid.

Then the unspeakable happens.

The screen goes black, and up comes the Microsoft error reporting screen. And me without a recent save, sure the autosave will have saved me some work that I would otherwise have lost since I've been playing this same game since about 8 this morning, but I've still got a lot of rebuilding to do.

What a drag! I could kick myself for not doing a proper save of the game every 30 minutes or so!

Have you changed the autosave frequency?

The default is 10 minutes, if you haven't, so you may have less work than you think. :)

I sometimes press the Windows key to check my email or browse forums :), and I have had the game just go away.

Alt-tabbing out of the game occasionally causing a crash is a known issue in the read me. I still do it a lot and hope for the best (but always save first) :)

Yeah before alt-tabbing just press F4 to be on the safe side, Even the best games have troubles giving windows back, some of them dont even let you try it.

Yeah I changed it to every 30 minutes I believe with a maximum save amount of 5, so yeah, I had a bit of work to rebuild, but not nearly as bad as I thought I'd have.

I've now changed it down to every 10 minutes, but it just crashed again on me when I tried to review the senario goals, this time I'll have to re-earn the kult temple again. Dang it!

Kuplo: Just a thot' but it seemed to help me...

Restart your computer, clean out your recycle folder and internet explorer temp files. Then run defrag hard disk. Of course do this after done gaming. If you haven't defragged in a while, start it just before you go to bed.

Thanks I run disk keeper so it defrags at 8pm if its needed, currently my drives are

C: 0% 13GB total on C, but C and D are one drive partitioned to 2 drives
D: 1% 96GB free on D
g: 2% 250gb drive, with 195gb free (cotn is installed on this drive)

None of which seem excessively high to me.

I could probably clean out my recycle bin since it's got about 4GB of stuff in it. But I dont see why that would cause a problem with the game.

I've been letting the game autosave every 3 minutes.

You can also do a quicksave via the F4 quicksave if you don't want to give it a proper filename. It will have quicksave in its name when you do so.

It's always a good idea to make those manual saves just about any time you make significant changes to your city or achieve some accomplishment. Make those manual saves to unique filenames. I just use the city name and add a number 1, 2, 3, etc. to the end to differentiate between them. That way I can go back in the sequence if something happens.

Guess I could have looked in the readme. :)

I am getting two kinds of crashes: memory address crashes and "hey-where'd-my-game-go" crashes where there is no error msg at all.

Still one heck of a cool game. :) I am so thrilled to be able to play a city builder that hasn't been out forever. :)

Wow, I never had these issues
Only thing was alt-tabbing, but I instinctively saved my game before alt-tabbing. :)

Good luck on this one, wyvern734 & Kuplo.

The only real crash, completely with WinXP blue screen of death, was after fooling around in the editor and pressing the "test" button. :)
