I looked in tech support and didn't see quite the problem I'm having. Similar to problem in another post but not quite...
Game installed fine and I played through all three tutorials with no problems. As soon as I try to start either a campaign or scenario the game dies and drops me back to my desktop. So tutorials run but regular game doesn't. Restarting computer made no difference. I haven't made any changes since installing the game and there was nothing in the event log that looked like a problem. Somewhat computer illiterate so I'm a bit lost here. Can anyone help?
I'm running with AMD Athlon 1.0, 256 mb ram and NVIDIA GeForce 2 mx/mx400.

It clearly shows that your system is barely at minimum requirements for the game. I can only recommend you to set all settings in-game graphic, sound, and interface to minimum. The resolution should be at 800x600x16bit.

If it doesn't help, so, stick with Tutorials untill you have new system :p

If not try turning off all the sound settings just to see if the game will run with them off.

If you still don't get it working run DXDIAG and post the results here.

Under the START>RUN menu type:

DXDIAG

Let the program run.

Then select SAVE. Save the results to someplace where you can find it on your computer.

Then come back to this thread and post a new message and use the MANAGE ATTACHMENT function below to upload the DXDIAG.TXT file and then post your new message.

I'm having the same problem. In addition, snapshot also causes crash.

I'm going to try the various suggestions, including those posted as "General System Performance Improvements" under technical thread. Will post what happens. This may be happening to lots of us -- post replies and be counted.

Okay, I defragged the hard drive, put all the graphics settings to minimum and turned off the sound and I still crash when I try to start a campaign or scenario. So, here's the results of the DXdiag. Hopefully this will help. The tutorials were beautiful and I'm dying to actually play.

To Jacquou Le: Just play the tutorials until I get a new system? Thanks, I'll tell you in a couple of years how that's working out for me. :p

From my past I have known that some virus will infect exe files and that will cause games and more not to run or to crash and even randomly reboot your system...what you should do it get some free anti-virus software there are plently out there...boot into safe mode and then run your anti-virus software...That way the virus has less exe's to attach itself to and make copies of once they are clean...I recommend NORTON as that is what it use...and some virus make reg keys so that they can spead and NORTON tells you where to find those keys and destory them...I hope this helps... :D

mxjc, as Jeff says, your drivers are a old. You should try updating both the Nvidia and SoundBlaster drivers.

Aaarg! Any more suggestions out there? I updated both my sound and video drivers and now I can't even play the tutorials. Game opens to the first menu but when I press play it crashes to the desktop leaving a black box and the mouse pointer takes a hike. I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del to get any response and shut down the game, which is now listed as "not responding".So I updated my drivers and now things are worse than they were before. Help? Anyone? Please?
***whines and stomps feet*** I wanna build temples too!
:) Seriously though, if anyone has any other suggestions I'd be very grateful.

Pasht, I just got a fix from Hans Shroeder (staff) re the crash-to-desktop with an NVidia GO Mobile---I'm a Dell 8000 on WinME, and it involved going back to an older, not a newer, NVidia Driver. The link he gave me is cited in the thread regarding crashes when starting a campaign. I hope that helps.

HalWalden, Could you post your DxDiag as well? Thanks.

:( I defragged my hard drive before I installed CotN & am cannot play past the tutorials (which I can play more than once). Haven't tried snapshote but both campaign and scenarios crash my system. I have attached my dxdiag file and would be grateful for help! Thanks.

Your graphics card is below the min spec for Children of the Nile. Here's (http://www.tiltedmill.com/forums/showpost.php?p=34204&postcount=6) a list of some cards that are and some that aren't supported.
