View Full Version : we seriously are not supposed to be able to do this are we? (56k beware)
you can build plazas anywhere you please... under buildings, pyramids, oblisks, quaries, farms (hereby called "chia plazas" :) ), on top of mountains, everywhere even in the water. (with the help of floods) the results look strange.
I took pictures of my plaza invasion for all to enjoy and ponder at. :)
as a side effect I found out that there is a limit before the game will crash on just how many plazas you can have in one game. (it's quite a large limit :) )
edited for more pics.

I'm sorry, but just because you can, Why would you want to put them everywhere?

Because they look nice and cost nothing? :D

I personally found it a nice touch that you can place them anywhere. But, you do have to be careful where you place them. It can mess with the AI of your citizens.
I had a hard time finding resources on the minimap... so I used plazas to mark them well so I could find them from "the hawk's view".

If they locked you out from putting roads and plazas under objects, that means you couldn't put them under trees, which looks just stupid. And that you'd have to route your roads in a C-shape around each tree, which you had to do in Pharaoh and looks even stupider.
On a scale of 1 to 10 in concern, this is a 0.5. The fix is easy. If you don't like the look, don't do that.

Ouch:
Top row --- LEFT
Middle row --- RIGHT
Imho: These are actually rather attractive designs. :D They more or less co-incide with some of the features that I might possibly like to include in my Scenario Builder "Dream City". [Large plazzas lined with obelisks and the like --- possibly surrounded (in turn) by temple complexes would seem an interesting possibility. ]
Oh well ... another few months to wait.
Nevertheless --- I would be REALLY interested in seeing some more potentially outlandish designs. :) Maybe someone could start a dedicated (and possibly "Sticky") thread entitled: "EyeCandy Designs" or something like that.
The great thing about putting plazas under buildings is you can give buildings floors of sorts, like use the plain plaza under the exchange, it looks a lot better.

Like NanaBanana, I use plazas to mark resources when I open a new scenario and explore the map.
Plain plazas for acacia trees (weapons). Colored plazas for henna, flowers, myrrh, oil trees etc. (luxury shops). I use roads and paths to outline linen, quartz, kohl (common and luxury) and quarries, mines (if found in the map). Oh, and plain plazas for where I can place barge landings or a shipwright.
I LOVE exploring the map before I ever begin placing structures :D

Righto Josh ........ I like the fact that plazas can go anywhere ... I almost always put them under statues and the Merchant Exchange ... I also use plazas to "color code" my city a lot ... blue/green for shopping districts ... purple/yellow for shrines and temples ... etc ......
It doesn't help the game any of course .... but it does help me with this cursed sense of order I have ......

I don't place plazas everywhere. They take away the "organic" look of a city or garden. I just place them under shrines or statues. Other than that, I don't use them much.

I like being able to put them anywhere too, but, no I wouldn't want them everywhere because I love nature too much to get rid of all my beautiful landscapes. But, they do add alot to your city in the right places.

Very strange having plaza tiles rolling up and down hills.
Maybe if people slipped and fell at a increased rate on sloped tiles it would
make the player use them more realisticly.

That might be useful - you could use carefully placed lines of plazes to help your people get around more quickly and thus get more done ; ) Though probably it would just result in massively increased healthcare demands as people queued in hospitals to get their broken limbs set.
I'd love to see a hippo sliding down one though.

or if the AI is good enough, they will simply create the first ever ski-resort!

Same here, I hope that doesn't change...Hmm speaking of limits, anyone know if there is a resource limit when creating a map in the editor?
Yep I'm making a crazy map full of stuff so no one can complain about running out. :D

Now THAT is a scenario that I would truly love to play when I eventually obtain a copy of CotN!! :D I am sure that there are many others as well you would love to play it. ;)

You would? Hehe...so would I since I like building and trading best. It's a large map so people can try and fit 100 nobles in it...Maybe that should be the goal! :D

That would certainly seem (from what I have read) to be an extremely challenging but worthy goal. ;)

One thing I like about being able to place Tiles anywhere is the fact that when you place a building like a Noble residence the ground goes from a beautiful green landscape to scruffy looking patches of grass and dirt. It stays this way even when they have fuly upgraded. Shouldn't the Gardener be hired in to fix this? (crossing over the Gardener being a Government worker vs Private business thread). The Tiles let you pretty it up some.
Notice the 2 Nobles I have placed in Bubastis (Lower and Upper Right) are scrubby. The Noble that was on this map (upper left) was the existing Noble from the start of the Scenerio. How did he get such a pretty lawn?

I agree with that. Many times the ground of the noble houses look fairly ugly with that mud/grass aspect. Also, when I run out of space in the grasslands, I tend to place buildings in the desert area. Have you ever seen a cult temple, with trees and gardens, planted on the pure sand?
