Just a stab in the dark, but try resetting your desktop to 1280x1024, if you have it set for 1600x1200, and then running the game. 1280x1024 is the largest resolution supported by the game.
I have this exact same problem.... i've tried the exact same stab in the dark idea but still nothing... i've go through pretty much every refresh rate and every res but i cant get rid of some type of screen vibration and its driving me nuts.... pleas eanyone know how to solve this

Have you checked the game settings to check that the screen resolution and is exactly the same as your own settings?
Yes, i've tried almost all of the resolutions in game as well as matched my ingame res with my desktop res.. it seems like on the left quarter of my screen is vibrating. 3gighz 1gig ram Ati Raideo 9800 pro 128 / win xp / is my stats .

You could try the monitor refresh rate - this almost solved it for me.
Assuming you have XP, right click desktop & click on properties; on the 'settings' tab, click 'advanced'; on the 'monitor' tab, choose refresh rate. The higher the refresh rate, the less flicker there will be, so highlight the highest available.

This is unlikely to change the refresh rate used by Directdraw. Windows was/is bugged in that it used to auto set refresh for 3D applications to 60Hz - very nasty.
I noticed that CotN after a reboot suddenly set my refresh rate to 70Hz, which is not supported by my LCD monitor (60, 72, 75 are the standard modes) which meant the left hand side of the screen with all the icons was "off screen".
To change this you need to "run" "dxdiag", and on the last tab "more help" click the lower button "override" the refresh rate. Probably good to set this to 75Hz if your monitor can cope. There are also tools for nvidia cards that you can use to customise this to give different refresh for different resolutions.
Edit: This assumes you're running Windows XP.
thanks alot djp you were right on the money with changing the refresh rate for direct draw. The funny thing is that with my monitor i have to have it on 60 to be able to not get any of the bouncing :) does that mean my monitor is bad? I am just wondering what is the real difference with having a monitor that has a highe refresh rate? Even though mine is only 60, everything still looks crisp and i can get 1600x1200 res with this monitor.

how do i change the refresh rate in the game to stop the screen from going nuts. I don't use WinXP, but 2K, and assume that you use XP, it's similar to 2K in this type of setting.
Do anything to get into Control Panel > Display > Settings > Advanced... > Monitor > and set your fresh rate. It only show the fresh rates that your monitor can support. Out of range settings won't display. It's better to check the box says "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display". Remember to restart your system.
