Has anyone else noticed their posts not registering under their profiles?

I know when I left for work today, I had posted my 70th post. I have posted a few more tonite... only my tally still reads 69! :(

EDIT: Sheesh.. never mind. I closed my browser and opened it again, now I have 72. (still a few shy I think but oh, well!)

NanaBanana:

Yes --- Shelleybell and Jenisis have mentioned the same thing in one of the threads below.

In this thread, I highlighted my hearbreaking "stoppage" at 998 (when my posts were also not being recorded) which should have been about 1003. :(

I really don't know what the cause could be --- but would be most interested in receiving an official explanation. :)

Why is this such a major concern for people?

I think that Jeremy should just kill the counter and ranking system altogether. It's a rather pointless feature of most messageboards as it detracts from the true purpose of the board. There's at least three threads already devoted to promotions or post counts. Pointless.

Something is messed up w/ it. Not sure what the deal is yet, but nothing was changed. Posts in this forum are still supposed to count...

Yeah, we'll see... If it gets out of hand and a lot of people are posting fluff to increase their count, it'll go away.

Spoken like a sourpuss who can't earn promotions! :D I respectfully disagree. We're all gamers, and the post count/title awards are like a little RPG in the forums -- we're developing our characters as we converse. It's fun, it's popular, and it might just encourage participation from people who would otherwise just lurk. Granted, certain people abuse the system by padding...but so what? It's not a competition. It doesn't make it any less rewarding for those of us who "play" as intended.

I can see the logic of hiding actual post counts so that nobody knows where the promotions occur or how close they are, though.

When people pad posts to increase their count/ranking that makes it a competition. And that makes it more difficult for those of us who don't "play" to wade through all the excess verbiage to find the posts that might actually interest us.

I don't think we get a lot of padded posts here or even much fluff but we do have livley topics that sometimes go a bit off track  but we have managed to steer clear of most of the me to type posts

yes a few people are intrested in post counts and titles but thats becouse we have nothing else to do some of us still have 26(and counting) days to go until we get the game and every now and then with lack of anything else to do or when get a title change that we havent seen before we coment on it. this seams to help as some people who just veiw join in a bit more which adds to the over all nice forum that we have IMHO :D

I agree with Sir Jeremiah... we should limit the fluff. I haven't seen too many senseless posts on the forums and everyone is guilty of hijacking a thread. :D (even tho TM gave us The Outside World to post in)

I don't see it as pointless, but rather a reward system. Perhaps it shouldn't have been instituted until the game came out, but nonetheless it's there.

I like the post ranks. I like that it matters to people what their ranks are. That means they see themselves as part of a Community here. Forums are about one thing, actually. Communicating with others of a like mind. If someone wants to post "fluff", we have a forum for it, and I dont' see many threads really going THAT far off topic. A little off topic should be expected in any and all forums online, as one idea leads thought to another in people's minds.

This is a community of people who like/love/are waiting to see, the game, and the genre of game it's in. I've never been on a forum with gamers before this. Too stuffy and prim and proper. I have been a message board host on AOL for over a year in the past though. There, high post counts show a successful board, deep in discussions. Some discussions are fluff according to the standards of the sticklers here. So what? It's people, communicating and making friends.

I personally feel too many people are making a big deal out of nothing when it comes to the fluff on these forums. There simply isn't much of it, and telling people what to post and how much to post, does not foster community. It makes these forums become just another game site, go there, get what you need, and leave, as I always did before, on other forums. I never posted, but read what I needed, and left. They weren't communities of friends. They were information spots, nothing more.

These forums, and this experience, have been different for me. I have made friends, and enjoyed the discussions that have taken place here. Sure, some people want to get a certain rank to see what happens.....and? Is that really so bad? I would think for TM, it is a good thing. The better and larger this community is, the larger the market for their next game, before it's ever even said what it is. More people will buy without question from a company they feel a kinship with, than one they do not.

Sorry for the long winded post.

The idea behind rankings is to reward people for being contributors to a community. This can particularly be an issue when an on-line community is just starting and any post at all is welcome.

As communities mature the numbers of posts per day increases until its difficult to keep up with, and the issue is encouraging "content" posts over fluff. At this stage generally moderators change over to a "points" or "rewards" system that are dolled out only for posts of the type they want to encourage. These points are typically to be spent for status enhancing little doo-dads --the ability to have an avatar graphic, or a different font for your name. The "geekpoints" system on http://www.boardgamegeek.com is interesting because members can also spend their points themselves, posting bounties on projects for other people to fufill, creating an economy.

Its nice to see what rank you get after posting or starting a new thread. As Bugsy said i havent been much of a poster either. I would lurk and see whats going on.

When i found out about Tilted Mill i came here and was shy. Didnt post just watch the posting. Until i found out about beta i signed up. I was chosen. And I started posting and talking ever since. I'm greatful for the experince and i feel like a part of a community here. I still dont post much. I want my posts to count for something. Even sometimes it doesnt seem like it though lol.

Having rank and titles are fun. They make people feel welcome and friendly around here. We all laugh and joke. We have good times. I do agree some of the posts are rather pointless. I dont post in it unless i really have to say something.

Maybe we cant control on what says around here but we can just ignore them. I know i'm closer to passing up villager and I was just wondering why my posts were not registering in the profile. I just asked lol. It'll be nice to move on and i'll feel special. But i'm not gonna post and post and post till i get there. I just post when i feel like it.

anyhoo thats my two cents worth lol.

Shell

just to add: *sniffs* they took 6 posts away. I was at 45 now i'm at 39. maybe i should have kept my mouth shut lol

I agree with you, Keith. I've never seen anyone get a real-life promotion from talking too much, unless it was always pertinent information.

I am still stuck at 19 posts. Its not really a big deal, I am certainly not stewing over it while i am at work or anything. I only post when I want to say something, but that something may not always be "important" really, just chatting. I don't see anything really wrong with someone trying to get a high post count to "see what happens" especially if its one noone has reached yet. Like the people who climb ridiculously high mountains and when asked why respond "because its there". Humans are by nature curious, and ambitious. I think its the differences in us all that makes the world a great place. Actually I am a little grateful for someone who puts in the effort of the super high post count just to see what will happen, that way I don't have to go to all the trouble. :D

Count reached 20 after that post. So the counter seems to be woking, just sporadically.

I have been paying attention to this phenomenon due to this thread.

Yesterday, my count was 23 in the morning, after my first few posts. It then stayed there all day and night, through about 5-10 more posts.

This morning, it advanced to 24, where it still is, despite about a half-dozen posts.

Now, I really don't care that much about post count and such, but I would like to see the title change from 'Vagrant'. :D
