Thanks for the new titles! They add a nice citybuilderish flavour to the forums. :)

Nice added feature. But...an "Elite" what? Noble, craftsman, shopkeeper, vagrant, those all make sense. But "Elite?" :D

Hey, speak for yourself! I much preferred to be a "Senior Member" than a SHOPKEEPER! :p No seriously, that's a nice gimmick, and makes the boards more personal than "generic" titles....
(But shopkeeper?!)

Hehe, certainly a lot of people got knocked down a few scales. ;) Anyway, I never particularly liked using the generic titles and wanted more of a scope.
And you can thank/blame Ken for the title choices!

Just sort the member list by post count:
0-24: Vagrant
25-49: Villager
50-199: Craftsman
200-299?: Shopkeeper
300?-499?: Elite
500?-1000?: Noble
1000+: ???

I think one becomes a shopkeeper at 150 and an elite at 300 :) . To become a noble you certainly need more than 500 posts :), I guess 600 because I had exactly 500 posts before I got Luminary and I was still Elite.

The board admin only had titles up to 1000 and had to invent three new ranks to accomodate me.

That's how I feel. How is a post count more important than WHAT someone has contributed? I don't post a lot of posts, I don't want to reply to each post, and others feel I've spammed the threads. There are many posts I never replied to for just that reason. There are threads (on here, anyways lol) I could literally have a lengthy discussion based on each person's reply. But, I know for a fact, I tend to babble and talk too much IRL, and in type. So I refrain. My post count is much lower than even Keith's, but I've been posting here a while now. I usually read the new posts every day, most often, several times a day. :D

That's a blast from the past...I diffinently do remember that, it was on the old original Impression site wasn't....long, long time ago....ahh, for the good old days. :) For some reason I really liked that format or style of forum.
Ditto, I liked the threaded style, because every topic could take ten different paths (some off topic, some on) and it would just flow fluidly.

I'm not worried about it, because it is going to happen, unfortunately.
Maybe they ought to have a rating system on each post. You can give a zero to spammers and posts with zero can be deducted from the author's "post count".
To make it unpopular, you can do like some of my old teachers used to do on some tests. If you guessed and got it wrong and deduct there was a penalty, in this case deduct 2 from his count for each one his offending posts. So his count will be going down instead of up. http://community.vugames.com/Images/emoticons/devil.gif

Yeah but my speciality is mugging threads! Sure you'd get threads to stay on their original track but it would be so much more boring if that happened.
Please don't punish me for being individualistic.
You can punish me for 'yes' posts cos I hate them.
Y'know when someone just posts yes or ok or something equally small that doesn't actually further the thread but adds to their post number... THAT bugs me...

Being off-topic may be more fun for you, but not for me.
Fun for me is to have a topic that isn't being constantly sidetracked with unrelated material, and one that flows in a logical sense from start to finish. The mid-thread chit-chat just kills the "mood" of a good thread.

Don't be. You just miss out on all the hot inside information we have been getting while all of you are left in the dark ... oh wait, we didn't get any! :D Think of Luminaries as some kind of "missionaries". We hang out in other places and talk about the game, offer information (that you also have) and generate some interest. It doesn't really make us special or anything. Post number 300 initially conferred the rank of Elite (a class) but it was subsequently changed to Overseer (an occupation).
