It would be nice, if they posted the ranks with the number required to attain each level.

Sooooo, Moose....what aspect of CotN are you MOST looking forward to exploring? Are you detail oriented, do you want to dig in there, and see how your people interact, and how to make them all happy? Or are you a non-"micromanaging" type player, who plays the bare bones, no fluff?
<eg> I'm game to help.
Possibly 1000 --- anyone want to help me in my quest? :p
Happy to help you and congratulations for your new title, Commander Moose! :)

Bugsy:
Thanks for your post. :)
Yes --- I am really keen to see my city grow and to be able to eventually develop a truly creditable and aesthetically attractive one. :) I am also keen to try to use the scenario designer to see whether I can manage to create my own world onto which I can build my dream city. :D
Although I am not a micromanagement fiend, I do quite like a challenge. I crtainly do not mind "working" for my grand city and look forward to labouring for MANY hours before my dream city is completed. I would also be quite interested in interacting with my people --- there seems to be an immense depth here that needs to be explored. :)
There are just so many potentially enjoyable things about CotN ... ;)

I think Ken made a great point we should all remember when we get our hands on the game. Rename people, and watch for them around our cities. That's a depth to this I had never thought of, but their children will move into other housing, and carry on their family names in our cities, how cool is that?? There is evidently a way to track it, from him saying he watched his. There'll be a million bugsies runnin' round! bwhahahaha!
Btw, my name, is for Ladybugs (aka ladybirds, ladybeetles, overseas), not for game bugs. LOL I especially love the nice scarabs they are using in the interface I saw in the screenshots! It looks so cool!

I adore them, and collect figurines and such of them. Total fanatic. I want a dishes set for my kitchen with them on it, but can't find one. I may have to hand paint some just to go in the China hutch. ;)
Is there a story behind your name, besides the obvious one? :)
Sorry, I can't sleep, there was a fugitive on the loose tonight around my house, all of the six police cars in my small town were on my street, my husband had to get on the ground when he went to lock the car, and I probably won't sleep for a month now. This sort of thing just doesn't happen in my small sleepy southern town. So I'm gonna pester you for a while this early A.M. (for me, it's probably night for you?)
Do you know what level is after Commander? (Trying to stay on topic to the thread lol)

Wow --- you are having an eventful night!! :o Keep safe there!!!
Yes --- the Son of Moose tag. The Moose is actually my mother who was widowed when I was 3 years old. She used to be an athlete in her youth (a prize sprinter and a provincial field hockey player). She really struggled to make ends meet when my older sister and I were growing up. Nevertheless, through resourcefulness and iron-willpower, she managed to put us both through university. :D
Therefore we both owe her a great deal. :) She is not only physically robust (albeit at 5'3" and 100 pounds :p ) but is also extremely tough from a mental perspective. She has therefore well and truly won the title of Moose --- one that is usually bestowed upon the local college Jock. ;)
Next title --- ? Pharaoh at 1000?

:D What a wonderful story!! I would be very proud too, it is quite the accomplishment for a single parent, and even as a married parent, I am hoping to send my kids through college as well. It is very expensive, and while they could take out loans, I don't want them to have to start out life in debt.
My oldest son, has his career picked out already, and has since he could hold a crayon. He draws maps. Architechtural ones, and street ones. He's only 7, but he has been set on this a long time. He loves other jobs, the usual, firemen, police, and such, but he literally jumped for joy when I bought him his very own World Globe. He is also very much into games, and plays the same ones I do. Kid is so smart it's scary. He loved playing Pharaoh with me, and then on his own after a long time of learning it. I think he is going to just love CotN, and I will be fighting for the computer when I let him play it. LOL
What other ranks have you been so far? I think they were all listed once, right after we got the new ones.
Mine stayed the same, Luminary, and will. Yanno, since I can't make ranks, I'd absolutely love it if they put a nice little gold scarab bug in the Avatars section so I could use it lol!!
You're way ahead of me in posts, and we've been here around the same amount of time! (only just over a month's difference.)

Very true --- I was EXTREMELY lucky in this regard as it can be dreadful having a massive loan over your neck when you are just entering the market place. :(
Is your son interested in becoming an architect or even a cartographer? :)
My ranks so far:
Junior member; Member; Senior Member; Shopkeeper; Overseer; Commander; ???
I missed the newer "introductory" levels such as Vagrant (yuck!!) and Craftsman. :)
Bugsy
10-20-2004, 05:10 AM
Hey now, don't knock Vagrants too much, I think I am one, underneath this title. I think it was said back then, over 100 moved up from Vagrant LOL!! I only had 98 when last I looked. I know I have more than that, but that's all it shows.
Oh, and I am not sure which he will be yet. He's not so specific yet. He likes both.
Son of Moose
10-20-2004, 05:17 AM
Bugsy:
I might be subject to correction here :o , but I think that a Vagrant "converts" at the level of 25 posts. :)
Still plenty of time for him to choose. :) Maybe he should visit a Careers Counsellor --- as their advice can actually be most helpful. :)
Bugsy
10-20-2004, 05:26 AM
We have actually gone to see the City Planners for our town. They gave him nice county maps showing the land geographics and stuff. They hang in his room now. I'll check into career counseling, but doubt they'll give it to him yet, solely due to age.
I had to fight for half of last school year just to get him tested for gifted classes. He passed with flying colors. He gets bored in class, and winds up talking, and then in trouble. His teacher this year is good, she keeps him busy with differentiated work.
I'm off to sleep for a couple of hours before he has to be at school. Thank you for chatting with me, I am much calmer than I was, you really helped. I am going to be one dead tired bug tomorrow with a three year old being the energizer battery's new advertisement. He keeps going, and going and going.....lol

10-20-2004, 05:30 AM
Hey bugsy, have you tried giving him some architecture or such books (kind of scholar books)? They maight be a little difficult for him to read, but if he's really motivated, some explain things well enough not to need diplomas to begin with...
difficult, but doable... ;)

Yes --- this is so often the unhappy fate of a gifted child. It is very sad that so many of them are missed and end up as gross underachievers. :(

Geez, maybe the title of this thread should have been "sleepless in cyberville". :D You guys sure were busy after I went to bed.
I would have been happy to join in on this conversation, only my sleepless nite was the nite before. :( I am trying hard to be anything but a vagrant! (I have to agree with Moose on that one!)
Not a lot of posting going on here. But, as is true with other games, it will be hopping after the game is released. Titles suck as HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLP will pop up. ;) I've posted a few of those on other forums.
Well, I am off to see what else has been posted. Maybe I can get to villager today! :p

<Shudders> Living in a large metropolitan area, the term vagrant brings to mind unwashed peeps, cardboard boxes and overpasses. Servants and slaves even had (albeit crappy in some cases) roofs over their heads. Some servants and slaves even lived in the big house, even if only in a utility closet or cubby under the stairs.
Yup.. would definitely take either of those over a cardboard box. :D
You're welcome Moose. And thanks for the offer.

I must admit that I had exactly the same thoughts in my mind :) --- that is why I questioned my own suggestions of slave and servant for the reasons you provided. :)
Here in South Africa we also have a dreadful social problem with vagrants. :( Therefore it is also not my favourite title either. :o

Your fever to get promoted is contagious. I just checked the number of my posts and what did I see: it is well under 50 although "find all posts by Kiya" says almost 60. Thank you all, I did sleep well, my wonderful husband kept our three year old occupied (as he himself went back to sleep with nary a trouble...) so I could sleep late, and I've just gotten up an hour ago. (noon my time.)
They did catch the guy. Nothing more than an idiot who was pulled over for speeding on the highway nearby, then decided to run for some stupid reason, tried to run over a cop, so now they have him on attempted assault with a deadly weapon (did you know a car was a deadly weapon?) So I should sleep easier tonight.
Arcan I believe it was, on the books, yes, he has several child-aged books on the topics, as many as I can find so far. I try to not bombard him with things he isn't ready to understand yet, so as not to discourage him, but anything he asks about, we look it up online, we get a book, we go talk to local people when possible. (Like the City Planner) My father in law works in construction, and has been working on setting up a meeting with an architecht for us.
The thing in America about learning it solely from books, and not college, is you won't be hired. They ask for that piece of paper from an accredited school that says you definitely do know what you are talking about. College is a must right now, and I imagine it will only be even more needed when he is my age. :) Thank you all for the support and suggestions, they truly mean a lot!!
Moose: I did know a man from East Tanzania, Africa. They were on their...third (I think?) President when I met him. I was driving foreign businessmen and women around one summer for my college, they were from formly communist countries that are now capitalist societies, and they needed to learn how to run their businesses better, so came over here to meet people in their field and learn from them. It was some of the best experiences I have ever had, and I enjoyed every minute. I actually have some African money from him as well. (I traded money with each person I drove, I kind of collect foreign money from my husband's Navy days.)

It's actually on my list of places to go see. I want to go on safari, and watch the lions in real life. I have spent many, many hours watching documentaries. They are my favorite creatures, which I do have several favorites, but bengal tigers and lions, are the top of the list. I also want to go whale watching in Alaska, I want to go to Egypt and explore the ruins, I want to go to Europe and see the cathedrals and keeps/castles, I want to go see stonehenge. Sooooo many awesome places, I also want to visit the Aztec, Incan and Mayan ruins. They all fascinate me to no end.
