View Full Version : Demographics poll

On request, here's a poll to find out about the demographics of forum members here.

If you're on one of the border ages, eg 30, then you get to choose which group you want to be in! (For those feel younger or older than they are :))

Looking forward to the results. I think there will be more males than females (but there will be more females than with other games) and that the average age will be 30+.

I'm male and under 20 myself.

I am on one of the border ages. I turned 50 8 days ago, so that lets me choose to be older or younger. :D Guess I am the second oldest female.
(Thank goodness it wasn't the oldest) ;)

-Mum, Non, go and make you homeworks.
Kids - But we've already done them
mum Then check if they are WELL done!
Kids - Dad, can you tell mum to let us play on the computer, pleeeeeese?
Dad - 'Gave up 30 ago kids... Mke yourselves a reason...

Interesting scenario indeed ... ;) I suppose one solution would be to buy separate computers for EACH member of the family. A bit like hte member who was going to play MP Emperor: RotMK with THREE separate computers. :)

I noticed that older people play this game more than the younger generation. I suppose if this was a Half-Life 2 forum, there would be more people on the under 20 and 20-30 side. :D

Son of Moose
10-19-2004, 02:37 PM
Madspy:

I am fairly sure that you would be totally correct in your observation. :)

This is why I really hope that as many of our registered forum members as possible will manage to complete this poll. :) Apart from anything else, I am absolutely sure that this information should be of considerable interest to our friends at TM!! ;)

KarsT:

This is indeed an interesting poll --- and none of us can actually be all that sure of the end result. :) It will become really interesting when a couple of hundred members have completed it. Somewhat like the big forthcoming election in the US!! ;)

Never mind, in a couple of year's time, you will be in the "big league"!! :p

Egad I had to go with Female 30-40, since I am actually past 30, my birthday was in August. See what I get for voting before reading?? LOL I took it as being up TO 30, and beyond 30, you had to go with the next up. YIKES I don't like seeing 40 anywhere near me lol

Although it is still mercifully extremely distant for you, I suppose that the big 4-0 is your next milestone. ;) Enjoy the 30's --- they are imho great years!! :D

Reminds of an elderly aunt (by marriage). Plans were being made to celebrate her 93rd birthday anniversary when someone found her original birth certificate.

Apparently, at some point in her "youth" she had tweaked her age and forgot about it. When informed that she was to be 96, not 93, she responded, "but I don't feel 96".

CaitGrey
01-17-2006, 02:25 PM
That reminds me of my grandmother. Smart lady. When she got to birthday no. 40, she started counting down until she reached 18 again. And then she stayed there forever. We never did get to know how old she really was!

Nakia
01-18-2006, 08:57 AM
Not me. When I first started posting to Game forums I kept my age hidden. Didn't want to scare the kiddies. Then on another forum they ran a poll similar to this one and I came out of the old-age closet. Got a positive responce and have been bragging ever since then.

mouse
01-18-2006, 10:22 AM
Ahhhhh Nakia I know that feeling worrying about scaring the kiddies:D Like you I got a good response (not that it would really matter) ;) They were impressed that an old person could not only play games but even be able to help them play too.

Dnisis
01-18-2006, 02:13 PM
I get a good response by most also. Then you find out their parents or grandparents play games, but are hiding it from those they know. As for experience, many of us have played since "pong".

It is so gratifying to see the numbers go up for those over fifty.

Nakia
01-18-2006, 03:56 PM
My experience goes thusly:

Hey, you're ancient and play games? Wow, isn't that great. Then a little while later they forget how old you are and start treating you just like one of the gang.

Just turned 20 a month ago. When I first came over to the old impressions forums, I assumed most people would be around my age ( I was around 14-15 at that time ), or at the most in their early 20s. Then some guys mentioned something about wives and kids and I realised that these gamers are not that young after all. As Nakia mentioned, we later forget how old you are and start treating you like one of the gang. That's 100 % true as far as i'm concerned. Even when I came to know the ages of the people I was corresponding with, it didn't seem to me like I was talking to an old person. The age of the other person doesn't seem all that much at all on these forums.
And for the official statistics - guys between 20-30 are still the majority, around 20% after I voted.
