Some of us really love aesthetic features (right Azeem? :) ) What will we have at our disposal in this area? Not much can be gleaned from the screenshots. Gardens, statues, landscaped parks and ponds, and things of that nature just seem to complete a city, to give it the final touch. It's almost like glue holding the various parts of the city together.

There have been a number of people that have engaged in "garden building" over on the Emperor RotMK board on VU/Sierra. They just like to build them and post pictures of them even though they are essentially "non-operational" in that the people in the game can't actually walk around in them.

Zeus and Poseidon probably had the most in the way of appeal items an one could create endless combinations of items to create interesting gardens.

It would be nice to have a functional customizable parks or gardens. I would suppose that these would be more probable for the wealthier class of citizen as the average worker wouldn't have had much time for such things.

I can see statues, plazas, and pools in the screenshots. I hope (and imagine) there will be more aesthetics in the final version, as well.

I think I recall having read something about garden designing contests on the Emperor: ROTMK forums. If I recall correctly, both Azeem and Ticaios are avid "gardeners". :)

I think the pools make lovely additions to what I'm guessing are upscale houses. I wonder if the obelisks will be features that we can click and place so to speak, or if they'll be considered "monuments" which require certain amounts of stone, marble, laborers, artisans, etc. Perhaps some smaller obelisks will be simple aesthetic features, while others will be monumental construction projects. It kills me to think that we'll have to wait another six or seven months for this game.

I'm sure it'll be worth it. :)

One of the screenshots shows a small obelisk in what appears to be a rather common housing area. Unless they change that before the game is finalized, I would suspect that we'll be able to have them.

Indeed. City-building just won't be complete without gardening. :) With this new 3D environment, there could be interesting possiblities in building gardens, as they would possibly be much more immersive.

One of my favorite parts of building games is the aesthetics. In Simcity I always loved having parks everywhere, and in Impressions games I loved using the plazas to make the neighborhoods prettier. I hope that these options are available to us in the game.

In at least one of the screenshots there does appear to be decorative roadwork (Plaza) in place.

You can even see the actual tessarea in one of them (#7).
Apart from that and the obelisks there appear to be various sizes of statues (small kneeling pharaoh, mid sized striding pharaoh, possible a large sized sphinx (which looks to small to be a monument).

Seeing such fine details as the tessera will be a pleasure in itself. I have wished for so long I could zoom in closer to my little Egyptians in Pharaoh/Cleo and see in more detail what they were doing.
I am hoping this may just be like Living History - in all senses of the phrase. :)
