OK, COX Cable just left! I now have internet WARP POWER! :D

I want Alexandria, Hinterland & Mosby's too!

I have a TM discount for Impulse, but Steam appears to be TM's choice. Who should I pick? I don't really need to use the Nile Online cupon. I want the best one.

Next question. I'm a Proud Computer Dummy. I have read posts about a bumpy ride going from cd to Alexandria. Should I just rebuy the full game & uninstall my cd version of COTN (after copying a zillion folders so they won't get lost?

I'm also worried about all the garbage that these services & games might throw on my tiny Windows C partition.

Windows XP Home here.

Please be gentle with the Tech lingo. ;)

Thank you all in advance! :)

Hi Tink!

I don`t know impulse, I have steam and hate it. But that's probably because I want to own my game on CD. It didnīt cause any trouble so far, though.

Installing Alexandria isnīt a problem if you have latest directX and new drivers. The real pain is to get two versions running for editing purposes. ;) The game will install itself wherever you want it and places the saves and scenarios always in "my documents". If you copy all your other saves and scenarios there, you shouldn`t have a problem.

Have fun! :D

Howdy, sakasiru!

Did you just get the Steam XPac with your COTN already installed via cd or rebuy the full game there?

Man-o-man, Nile Online now SMOKES! :D

Honestly, I don`t know for sure... I got the Alexandria through beta testing and there was a full version on steam, too, but I don`t think I downloaded it... Just installed Alexandria over my running CD version and it worked, and then I had a hard time installing it a second time without Alexandria, but I think I did that with the CD, too.

Well, apparently we can now put a wrap on this thread & move my Labs out of the Tech Section.

I decided on Steam & installed in on my larger D Partition. All Steam downloads apparently install where Steam is installed.

I first tried to only buy the Alexandria XPac, but during checkout it errored out that I don't own the game. LOL I have 4 1/2 COTN cds :D

Soooo, I cancelled that order & bought everything. The Entire TM collection ~ COTN, Alexandria, Hinterland & Mosby's.

I have only installed COTN & Alexandria so far & it looks like very little of my tiny Windows C Partition is used. Whew! No more worries!

Steam so far looks fantastic. I can play COTN three ways now (I have three copies of the game installed!) LOL

1) My cd still works. Game files under Program Files/Tilted Mill
2) Play COTN 1.3.01 via Steam. Game files under Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/children of the nile
3) Play Alexandria via Steam. Game files under Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/children of the nile alexandria (this has the complete game, not just Alexandria files)

One very interesting thing I found in the files, but haven't checked them out yet.

Did TM stick in a couple previously unmentioned scenarios with Alexandria as a surprize?

What are these files, TM? Hmmm? :D

Giza Complete.scn
Sanctuary.scn
Thutmosem III.scn

Sounds kinda familiar... ;)

...yahooooo...

I thought user created scenarios were mentioned. Yep, just as I thought, last sentence on page; http://www.immortalcities.com/cotn/alexandria/

Too late now but, I went through GamersGate and they don't even have a client installed on your machine. That is, you can download it and never go on line again and play it forever.

Of course you can do the same with Steam, just in case you didn't know, you don't have to be on-line for games purchased with steam to work. The basic reason for me was that updates would be auto.
