Game will not load

I have COTN through Steam. I bought a new laptop, installed the steam client, and had it redownload my games. However, while my other games play fine, COTN will not load. Windows tells me that the game encountered a problem and needs to close. This happens almost instantly after launching it.

This is what I've tried so far:

I have verified the integrety of the game cache, and also deleted and redownloaded the game files (twice).
I I have updated DirectX to the November release.
I have updated drivers for the sound card and graphics.
I uninstalled my antivirus.
I tried disabling the windows firewall, to no effect.
I also tried loading the CoTN.exe file from "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\children of the nile", but I get an error message that Steam must be running to play that game (even though Steam is currently running !!)
I've been through the Steam FAQ and tried all of their suggestions, but no luck.


Can anyone help?

Don't uninstall your anti-virus just disable it when you want to play. Uninstall CotN both through Steam and physically from your hard drive under Steam common files and under my documents. The before you reinstall reboot, after reboot disable the firewall, antivirus, run disk cleanup, defrag your hard drive and any anti-spyware software running in the background . Then go to Steam and reinstall CotN. Hope that helps you to be able to play.

Oh I'm so sorry about that. The only thing left is update your video driver a newer version which might work. Had another thought do you have net frame work installed? It's need for the game to run.

Unfortunately, I have the latest graphics driver already.
