Hi,
I have recently re-installed CotN. I have the UK version.
I have upgraded to the 1.3 enhanced edition (uk) off of the tiltedmill website
I have installed the latest version of my graphic drivers
I have installed directX 9 (nov 08 version)
when I launch the game (with or without "run as administrator") the game movies load up and play, and I get to see the opening menu's.
I can alter settings (video sound etc).
now when I go to start a game, as soon as I hit proceed the screen goes black.
the games does not hang. infact I can alt-F4 to close it. alt-tab to other apps. and the task manager reports it is running fine.
please help as I would like to play this game!
Cheers
here is my copy of the latest DirectX dxdiag:

No you haven`t!
Have a more closer look into your own dxdiag-file.
I see Driver Date/Size: 9/23/2008 there.
On ATI I see : ATI Catalyst™ 8.12 Display Driver for Windows Vista (32 bit), released:12/10/2008

alrighty Manni;
I was almost 99.99% sure this was not related to graphic drivers, but to shut down any potential issues I updated to the latest from last week
Still the issue occurs.
Once I hit the Proceed button on the scenerio (or tutorial) the screen goes blank. nothing shows. I can hear the sounds fine, and i can alt-tab / alt-F4 to close -- but still a blank screen.
please find attached 32bit and 64bit version runs of the latest Dxdiag.
Cheers and i look forward to hearing back on possible solutions.

OK Right!
Your machine is a HIT and should be able to handle the game with "two fingers" really.
I`d say try instead of Current Mode 1920 x 1080 the mode 1024 x 768 for a starter.
Of course you have UNinstalled the old video-driver before you installed the new.......
I bet the game is situated on your drive C.
Drive c has the bombastic seize of 700 gigs and filled half. Have you ever defragmented yet?
question besides: how do you manage to switch between 32bit and 64bit ?

Try compatibility mode. Usually games that do not work on Vista work on XP, 2000 etc. To do this,
Right-click on the shortcut for your game
Click on compatibility options
Select windows XP SP2
Apply the changes.
Run the application.
If the problem persists, contact ATI for troubleshooting game problems. Did you check the minimum requirements of CotN? If you didn't take a look and if you did, check all info on the back of the disc box eg, graphics card needed, processor speed, windows compatibility etc.

Thanks for the suggestions
It works fine on these settings:
1024x768x32
1360x768x32
1440x900x32
1680x1050x32
1776x1000x32
it does not work on:
1920x1080x32
1280x720x32
as for the install, I put this in my C:/games/ folder instead of the c:/programs(x64)/blah..blah.
I hope the modification of the install path hasn't caused any issues.
I find it very odd that this will not work on the highest rez settings. My gfx card can easily handle this.
suggestions?
thanks again

Keep running the game on one of them settings. :)
