I just downloaded CotN from Steam. The game launches just fine. I figured it's a fairly old game and I have a fairly new rig, so I set the graphics to max and set the screen resolution to match my widescreen monitor, i.e. 1680x1050 32-bit.

When I launch an actual scenario, I get a blank monitor with the message "out of range" displayed on it. I fiddled with the settings and found that a scenario would display on my monitor if I set the resolution to 1280x1024.

While the game is certainly playable at that resolution, I am disappointed that I can't play at the full resolution that both the game and my monitor should support. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Semerkhet

CotN was updated this year with some add-ons but no it does not support all possible resolutions.

Which makes it odd that the graphics settings tab would even have 1680x1050 as an option if the game does not support resolutions that high.

The game itself doesn't have a set list of what resolutions. It goes by the table of resolutions that your monitor and video card have setup. On my game's graphic settings the largest resolution is 1280x1024, which is the largest my monitor can support.

I've seen other games that don't handle the "widescreen" aspect very well and the players have to use standard aspect ratios and screen resolutions to get them to work.

Agreed. I have options up to 1680x1050 because that's what my card and monitor support. However, it seems like the game doesn't support that resolution. I updated both my directx and my nvidia drivers, just in case, but it made no difference. I still get the blank screen when I set to anything over 1280x1024.

Game looks fine at 1280x1024, so I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

Thanks for the replies.
