Hi i have just bought the retail version of CotN and when i start it i go into a senario as soon as i select the world view the computer restarts even when i go into the settings it does the same thing even when i TRY and go into the editor.

I am runing it at all lowest settings lowest resolution and color bits but it still restarts PLEASE HELP.

And the demo version ran without a hitch.

System specs
2.8 Ghz celeron
256MB of DDR Memory < Could be the problem>
32MB of onboard video memory <Could be the problem also>
All drivers are up to date

From what I've been able to find, it appears that tht SiS661FX is a chipset and not a actual video card. It probably doesn't support the DX9 graphic features required by the game.

Also, your audio drivers are way too old, from 2001.

The automatic restart of your computer is probably due to a blue screen of death crash, or a data execution protection (DEP) crash. You can disable the automatic restart of the system so you can see any error messages that might be displayed.

Right click the My Computer folder, select properties, then the Advanced tab. In the Starup and Recovery sectoin click on Settings. In the System Failure section uncheck the box next to Automatically restart.

Now if the system crashes it will sit at the error screen. You will have to power down your system manually from there and restart it manually.

Descendant of Tut, I think you were right, XP usually needs at least 512Mb of RAM memory to run well. I would suggest update your ram to 512mb or 1Gb and you probably will need a stand alone video card to run the game- it looks like you have AGP so that shouldn't be a problem. AGP cards can be bought very cheaply now since PCI-E was introduced. Since I'm in Aus as you are I buy from Centrecom online but thats based in Vic so Itech in NSW is good. Depends where you live tho and if you are doing the upgrading yourself. Centrecom has 2 GB memory for around $180 but 1Gb or 512 would be much cheaper. Have a look around at online stores in Aus and get a feel for prices etc. Good luck!

I turned off the automatic restart but it still restarts without a blue screen ill be downloading the patch today and see if that has fixed the problem.

It has been a while since I posted being without the net is really boring but now I have it back and it will never go away.

On to the main point I have updated to the latest patch and it only restarts when I try and go into the world view and some times when I go back and forth between menus otherwise just fine but still choppy FPS and I have scoped out some upgrades for it that might get rid of the problem tho all the stuff is of EBay don't worry it is still new in original box.

Video Card NVIDIA GeForce 7950GT 512MB AGP 8x Video card if that don.t work I have a 7900GS 512MB AGP 8x
Memory Kingston HyperX 2GB (2x1GB) 184-Pin DDR400 pc3200
CPU INTEL Pentium 4 3.8 GHz 672 CPU 2MB of L2 cache, HT.
PSU Silent Codegen 530W PSU ATX Case Power Supply

My motherboard will support all that and it is only a GA-8S661FXM-775 with latest bios update to version F4 and i got the machine for :D:D FREE :D:D.

Just a suggestion you might want a higher watt power supply like 600watts or more and make sure to update all the drivers. Another thing make sure you have enough cooling since and overheating video card can cause random restarts.

Hi all I have fixed the problem without upgrades like the title said the answer is that i have the machine :D OVERCLOCKED :D normal speed was 2.8GHZ with a FSB of 533Mhz and memory speed of 333Mhz Now it has a new clock speed of 3.401GHZ with a FSB of 647.8Mhz and a memory speed of 402MHz.

But now when ever I go into the game I can enter the world map go between the menus very fast and no crash just keeps going only problem I have low fps
only in the 5 to 35 range but it still goes good and attached is a screenshot from CPU COOL the program that let me overclock to this level while in windows only and the new CPUID CPU-Z program but ill attach it later my internet has got a snail pace to it.

!UPDATE! I was playing a tutorial two as a test if the game will run on a OC computer and it does ......for a hour then it decides to freeze and sound like a skipping CD then dwwin error program appears and said it has to terminate the program due to a internal error and the funny thing was it was in window mode so I might have to get a new machine I am not going to upgrade the current one i have it will be a waste of money I prefer to put that on to a new computer.
