My problem is that the game crashes when scenario or campaign is started. Tutorial is the only part i can play.
I noticed other players experienced the same problem.

I have my DxDiag message and I hope you can tell me what my problem is (since there are different reasons for this problem)

Hello Addenda :)

Sorry to say your PC isn't able to run the full game. Not enough RAM memory, no modern graphic card. Do you have programs like Daemon tools or alcohol installed?

Deamon is installed

If Daemon tools are installed the full game won't work. It is not enough if you disable them, you have to completely uninstalled them. Securom won't let the game run otherwise.

I´ve got the same problem with my game, it only plays the tutorials, not the campains and scenarios.
Hope you can help me too. I attached my dxdiag.txt file.

NBOO, You have the same problem - not enough memory. For Windows Vista you should have at the very least 1 GB, better would be 2GB. The graphics card looks ok. Also I hope you have the game installed on your C drive as your D drive has very little free space left.

Hi,
I have a new pc now, which has more memory than the older one.
But the game still shuts down at the campaigns and scenarios...
I downloaded the patch but now the game doesn't work at all anymore...
I'll add my DxDiag, hope you can help.

Did you install DirectX 9.0c on your new system in parallel with DX10? The game was designed for DX9 and DX10 doesn't have all the necessary files to run some DX9 games.

Are you using the same anti-virus software that you had on your old system? It might be triggering the crash. Try disabling it before running Cotn and see what happens. Anti-spyware and anti-virus software can sometimes cause problems with games and applications.

Try running the game in the XP compatability mode on Vista. Set the cotn.exe file for XP compatability. I believe this is done through the exe file's properties setting. Right click on the exe and select properties. There should be a tab on the window that comes up where you set the compatability mode.

It may also be necessary to run the game to "run as administrator'. This is also found on the exe file's right click menu. Select "run as" and then set it for administrator.

On the ATI control panel software for your video card, under the 3D settings section make sure you set the each of the options for "let the software decide" where it is an option if they aren't already set that way.

Try using different settings in the video and sound options in the game until you find the problem. Try lowering all the video options to minimums and see if the game will run that way. If it does raise one of the settings until you detect a problem. Then back it off. Then do the next setting the same way. Keep repeating for all the settings one at a time to see if any of them gives you a problem.

For the sound setting you can try turning the sound off to see if the game runs. If it does, then there is a problem with the sound system drivers or the hardware somewhere.

It works now! I reinstalled the game with the Direx9.0c deliverd on the cd-r, and now it works!
Thanks.

That directX 9c is a pain. I have bought games that don't work because of this. I have tried downloading 9c, but that never works.

Great! Sometimes that is all it takes.

Ooooo....
So as long as I have daemon Tools installed the game will not run? (Referring to my own problem.)

Edit: Still doesn't work, or do I have to reboot to see it work.

Daemon Tools is a problem with games that use the SecuROM security software. SecuROM would detect the application and prevent the programs launch.

The original game discs came with SecuROM, however, the digital download versions of the game may or maynot use SecuROM. I don't know if that was ever determined in fact or not.

Many security applications have problems with things that run in a virtual environment.

It may be necessary to uninstall Daemon Tools and shutdown and restart the system to clear the system's memory.

If that doesn't work you'll have to fill us in more on your problem, what you have tried and also upload a copy of your dxdiag.txt file.

It would probably be a good idea to start a new thread about your problem on the support board.

The problem is NOT with DX9, but DX10 not having all the necessary files. Also to download does NOT install it. You have to run/extract and then run the DX9 setup after that to install. If you downloaded and ran you missed the most crucial step as it was not updated if this was all you did. In-game installers have all the steps built in, but not if one has to update. If you are going to put blame on something do make sure to put it where it belongs.

Sincerely,
Phil
