Ok, I have tried everything... patch 4, patch 5, C++ redistributable 2008, and the crazy command prompt stuff some other guy suggested on this board... my game has not and (I believe will not work....) I will attach my dxdiag... If anyone has any suggestions I will do anything to get this game to work... after 5 / 6 uninstall and reinstalls, getting the thing to work would make me ecstatic...

help me please!!!

You mean SimCitySocieties, not CoTN (this is COTN section)? CoTN has no patches 4 and 5.

You seem to have a decent system, and quite a lot of sound capture devices, but your report doesn't show any hard drives. Where are they? You have Daemon tools, Alcohol or similar in your system?

I notice you don't have SP1 installed. Now I'm not sure if this is whats causing you problems but it has over 500 bug fixes... You can get the 'standalone' version here:

Yes it is clear now. You have Daemon tools installed and this game (Cotn or SCS) will never work on your system, unless you completely uninstall them. It doesn't help if you only stop using Daemon tools or similar.

'Cleaning up' your start up system will make your system run better over all, but you have to _know_ what to leave and what to take off.

Windows Vista SP1 has nothing to do with this problem here (this games were released before SP1), but having it will certainly fix some problems vista has/had.

The service pack contains fixes for stabilty and better gaming, indeed the nvidia 'hotfix' page for vista states:

Previously on this page, NVIDIA recommended a series of Vista hotfixes for GeForce customers. Windows Vista® SP1 has now been released and it includes all of these hotfixes. Therefore, NVIDIA now recommends upgrading to SP1 for the best Vista experience.


These fixes are for any game being played on vista regardless of age...

BlisteredVista, oh I'm sure vista SP1 contains fixes for stability and better gaming, but in this case (for ian insipid) the crucial point is having Daemon tools, not SP1. If and when Securom detects Daemon tools or similar programs it will not let SCS run at all, not until these tools are uninstalled. Getting rid of virtual drives that are made by them is not enough for Securom.
