problems with the french steam game

Hi !
I've just bought CotN in french on Steam and i'm already having problems with it.
- A lot of french letters are absent from the texts. I mean the é, à, è aren't there. I downloaded the fonts from the CotN website but those letters still don't appear.
- The game screen (not the menu screens) seems to be moved too far to the left. There is a black column to the right of my monitor, and I can only see half the icons of the left side.
I'm using a 19" monitor and I think i'm using the latest nvidia drivers.

I do have the amd dual core optimizer program but haven't used it for a while. Maybe i should run it again ?
I know nothing about "excess pagefile usage". Are you talking about unnecessary background programs ?
The only "sound capture device" I can think of would be a microphone/headset that isn't currently plugged to my computer, so even though it may cause problems when it'll be hooked, it shouldn't cause ones right now.
I have closed and started Steam numerous times, slept, tried the day after, and the french alphabet problem is still here.

Yes, unnecessary background programs. I was amazed to see how many I had there when only 4 was needed. Check your list and you'll probably be surprised. (run - write 'msconfig' - see page 'start'). One of the techs will be able to say what you need of them, if you can't yourself. This will probably not help your problem with the missing French marks, but it will help the overall performance of your PC: :)

Ok, I tried different settings and found out I could play the game at 1028*768 without the screen being moved to the right. I'd have liked to play it at 1280*1024 though...
Now the biggest problem is those missing letters.
