Hi,
I've recently bought the steam based version of CotN (I tried the demo a day ago).
After I've finished downloading all game relating content I tried to run the program but it did not start.
So I went into the steamapps folder and located the CotN directory where I found the CotN.exe. I double clicked the file to run CotN but it just told me "Steam must be running to play Children of the Nile" while I was running steam - I'm always running steam at start-up because I playing counter-strike competitively.
Today I read the posts about the Steam Version but it did not help.
I tried running it with different languages and even reinstalled DirectX three times with the latest redistribution - no effects.
I hope you guys may be able to help :)

Click on the game on the steam screen, go to properties, local files and verify the files that will sometimes solve the problem your having and defragging the game cache too.

Ok but if it was DirectX why have I been able to start the demo of CotN Enhanced Edition?

Phil I don't see a "virtual" drive installed Snooper's system but do see the problems you and Rnett identified;)

For Snooper's information a "virtual" drive is usually a program that allows software to be run without a cd/dvd or can be used to copy software to by pass copy protection. Nero is one of the programs that install "virtual" drives as part of the standard install. But other programs also install virtual drives for other reasons.
Is it possible that the problem is with the 64 bit version of XP as MS didn't do a good job with XP 64 bit development.

No there's no 64 bit version of windows installed but for the next step I'm trying to install a new windows hoping it will lead me to playing CotN ^^ I'm gonna give you a report of my try after reinstalling.
