I now have a double list of all my saved games. Now when I save I get another one added to the list. Why do I have more than one name per game?

the save games for the patched version are kept in your documents and settings folder, so perhaps your game is reading them from the new and old locations

my theory as well

So how do I correct that and keep the new saves from adding the same name to the list?

That is really weird, Grad & not happening in my game. Please start with my original thread v1.3 Ehanced Problem Loading Saves (http://www.tiltedmill.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17044)

I don't get double entires & I have resaved many times so far.

I have stopped trying to load via the in-scenario menu like your image & will quit the scenario & load only via the Main Menu option.

If I save, it only saves to the new My Documents folder.

I will probably delete the regular game save files in the game file location at a later time so I can use the in-scenario load again. Right now, I just cannot trust it.

EDIT: You have this new thread in the Editing Section, Grad New user scenairos (http://www.tiltedmill.com/forums/showthread.php?p=193693#post193693)

I wonder if your uninstalling & reinstalling the v1.3 patch (wonder how you even did that) has caused old files to be duplicated AGAIN into your My Documents folder, cuz after patching the game COPIES old saves to the new location (guessing it did it again a second time when you ran the game?). Have you checked the actual folders to see if you have "real" duplicates in the two different locations? I'm not a tech person & just wild guessing here & also giving TM more info about what your situation is.

Under my wild guessing, that would still not explain why you are getting a THIRD save with the same name...

Anyway, what does your Main Menu load option look like? Got a smillar image for TM?

I am sorry Tinkerbell, but I have given up on the Children game, I tried to uninstall the "Enhancement" and go back to the original game, but it will not load without the "Enhancement", so now I have a game I can not play. I find it hard to believe that patch can take over ones computer. It is just like Steam.

So sorry to hear that, Grad. :( I am reading some really bad threads here in the technical section. I'm afraid to even try right clicking on things.

Normally I would guess that you try a complete uninstall & residual file cleanup before trying to reinstall, but not at this moment. I believe TM is aware of most things & working on it.

I guess I am one of the lucky ones, that everything appears to have worked for me & I didn't have to fuss with the game.

Sometimes, being computer stupid & living with what I get is a good thing.

I spent all day yesterday (8+ hours), I cleaned (so I thought) everything that related to Children and Tilted Mill from my computer. I even defragged. When I installed the game and the original patch this morning It would not run until I installed the "Enhancement". So I either play the game with all their nonsense or don't play it at all. Which is unfair since I purchase the original game. It has totally messed up the new game I was making.

I have had the duplicated file names, but the strange thing is that they appear and disappear, pretty weird, but besides that the game works well, so I don't understand why it be so disturbing. :D

I think the problem is related to file transfer to the new saved data in documents folder: when files are transferred during patching, they are not deleted in the old folder, hence when you save you see only the folder in documents, when you load you see ffiles from both folders. You can easily solve the problem of duplicated files manually erasing all the content of the folder ..\Program files\Tilted Mill\Children of the Nile\data\Saved Games.

What I would really like to do, is to be able to have my game back the way it was before I loaded in the "Enhancement". If someone could tell me how I would be forever grateful. I know that I could F disc. But right now that is not an option.

PROBLEM SOLVED I have my original game back

I'm sorry to hear you went through so much trouble, thegrad. Could you tell me what happened when you tried to run the game after you had uninstalled and reinstalled? Was there an error message? We want to make it possible for folks to play with whatever version they prefer.

When I tried to reinstall and play, the game would crash and I would get the "Microsoft has a problem" message. I contacted my son who has a computer business and he told me how to "clean" my computer. I am back to the original game, which I think is better than the "Enhanced" version, and less intrusive on my computer. I really don't want a game placing items in "My Documents". The first patch did not do that.

Thanks, thegrad, and I'm glad to hear you're up and running again with your preferred version.

If you or anyone else encounters this in the future, deleting the CotN folder (which defaults to "c:\program files\tilted mill\children of the nile" or "c:\program files\SEGA\immortal cities") after uninstalling and before reinstalling should prevent the problem you ran into.

Moving user data into the My Documents folder is necessary for 1.3 to be compatible with Vista; I'm sorry it was an intrusion for you.

Could it be the Copy Protection- It took over my Computer and I had to restore it from a recent check point.
But I will not give up on COTN- I will be patiant

JLS, you're probably thinking of a problem with SecuROM where it could cause right-clicking to stop working in Windows. That's fixed in this upcoming patch.
