I have to guess that you have some long term plans on follow-up games, and I'd love to see the creators of Lords of Magic duplicate their wonderful work in the genre.

Just curious if your team has had any discussion along those lines, and if there is a market to make it worthwhile.

I think Triumph (Age of Wonders) currently holds that niche. Stilll, who knows ;)

Who knows? Well, I was kind of hoping that someone at Tilted Mill would know

I'll take the embarrassed silence from the team as a resounding "no" :(

Which is too bad -- now that both Impressions and Sierra are gone, this would be the perfect time for TM to acquire the rights to Lords of Magic and develop a sequel.

Stardock has taken the bull by the horns and is doing this exact thing with Masters of Magic http://www.masterofmagic2.com/. It's exciting to see a small independent step out and lead the way with such a bold initiative. It will certainly earn my $45 in pre-order cash! :)

Hopefully the success of Stardock and MoM2 will spur on such endeavors by others. Or maybe Stardock will simply snap up LoM and redo the game itself as well ;)

Either way, it appears that Fantasy TBS is alive and kicking, for those brash enough to pursue it :D

It is hardly an "embarrassed silence." We are focussed on CotN now, and will announce our next project when the time is right.

Unless I'm missing a newer announcement, they have not said that they will develop MOM2. They are just trying to gauge the interest. The message spoke of needing at least 5000 players who are willing to pre-order the game. The correspondending poll only has about 700 votes in total, and not all of them are for the first option. I don't know if it necessarily makes sense for a small developer to pay a lot of money just for the name. Sure, hardcore gamers like us remember Master of Magic vividly, but how much does it really mean to the majority of today's gaming audience? Yes, I'd buy it, but I'm not sure if MOM2, even if well done, could meet the expectations of those of us who harbour fond memories of the game that we played back when we were young and beautiful. :)

At the risk of sounding like a "fanboi" here: I'm glad that Tilted Mill is focusing on one project rather than working on too many games at the same time. Small developers usually don't have a lot of cash stashed away, and if they focus exclusively/mainly on CotN, we'll not only see the game sooner, but they are probably also less likely to hit a financial wall. I'm not saying that I wouldn't love to see a TM-developed sequel to Lords of Magic, but I am really looking forward to CotN and would hate to see it delayed or endangered for any reason. Okay, I'm done sounding like a good fanboi now!

Well, I was looking for an official response, and I finally got one. And it pretty much answers my question.

Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to reply to a long time fan and a potential customer.

Just to follow up with some similar news, Bethesda has acquired the license for Fallout 3. Apparently there was even some competition for the franchise lisence, and Troika was outbid.

I really like this trend, and I hope to see it continue. I think that LoM has enough gavitas to attract some similar attention.
