I noticed when I was filling out my bug report that my version still said that it was the first patch version not the second patch version. I had run both patched which told me that they had executed sucessfully. When I had run them, they were not right in the Simcity Societies folder, but they had run without error, so I figuresd that they could be run from anywhere. Apparently that was not the case, because when I put them in the program files\electronic arts\sim city societies folder and ran them (1 then 2), I was good to go. No more freeze when it gets to painting terrain. Now this is probably not the same freeze problem that some of you have-never had any probs until I tried to install patch 2. Of course this could all be coincidence, and I could have fixed something else, but what with the version number being wrong, I think that might be it. I also deleted all the old folders and files when I reinstalled the game, which I hadn't done before, so it is also possible that something was not being overwritten as one might expect.

Thanks for that report, amconway.

It shouldn't make a difference where the patches are located when you run them. Is it possible that the first update (or one of the presale packages, which included the first update when they were initially released) was installed after the second update was installed? That could result in errors.
