I've had issues with both patch one and two. I called for help from our resident Nvidia expert and was delighted to get a phone call that made a few settings changes help. Thanks Phil.
At first I crashed on launch with patch two, that we got here, not from the official route via the game launcher.
I launched the game, picked the second patch from the game launcher's link. Installed it over the others. I had both patch one and patch 2 on it before, but the patch 2 was not the same link as the one pointed to in the launcher.
I got early lockups and freezes with the game.. heard from Phil and we went to msconfig. ( for xp players, that is.. Start >run>msconfig )
After he noted that I had far too much stuff running, he had me read off all of the files listed.. we kept just the stuff needed. I can run the other things, but I have to click to get them launched. I now have fewer things running in startup. See the images of what he wanted me to KEEP on startup.
I launched the game while chatting, found that moving the camera around during a saved game was a point for lockup.
We then went to the game settings on the following tests...
----------------
(resumed same game) At this point I restarted the game and he went with me through various options in the settings.
Video settings are now at day night cycle, weather, windowed, brightness half way. screen resulution 1024x768

Message timer, 34,
I have only the right handed mouse set and only enabled the placement grid.
At this point we set the autosave frequency to every ten mins... (key here)
and have 99 autosaves to keep.
===========
opened the saved game from the first run, checked my clock and around 9 mins in the game, I repeated the free camera action and panned the camera. lockup. I DID find an autosave, so at least it was made before the crash.
(Resume 2)
853 pm That time I did not move the camera during autosaving. The camera does move smoothly at the start of the resumed game.
903 pm no camera action/movement during autosave.
910 pm.. MS send error report. don't send report and it dies to the desktop.
1003, pm, start game, change to no autosaves.
Free Camera

No autosaves.
THis run went on for 20 mins, and then a geometric yellow cut out was put over just the game window and I locked up. The screen was mostly yellow, but there were triangles of the game window's buildings, grass, etc.) The question was whether weather was party to the lock ups now?

No BLOOM< NO SPECULAR< NO VERTICAL SYNC, NO WEATHER and No AUTO SAVES!
With these settings I was able to play for two hours without a lockup.
----------
I'm happy that I can enjoy the game for two hours, but its still touch and go. Note that lowering start up programs, NO WEATHER and no Autosaves! All of these seemed to help,
Hope this helps some of the players. Get rid of the autosaves and the weather, lower some graphics settings and you might get to play a little longer.
