Hey, my trees appear to be invisible:( is it a bug or do I need to change the settings?

are you trying to place a singel tree or painting a grove of them. Becasue if you paint them on then the area needs to have so many squares before it shows up

I'm not quite sure what you mean but today I placed some cacti on the map and after at least 2 hours of me eating my tea and doing my homework nothing appeared, if that's what you're talking about.

is it just not being able to place the 'trees' yourself, or are there no generic plants either?

Howdy, Cjoe1994!
Drop down a few threads in this section to my thread (actually on page 2 now)...
No trees, rocks & rock formations (http://www.tiltedmill.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14500)
They probably are not invisible; they don't exist at all. ;)

Yes actually they are invisible because the game is recognizing that they "exist" on the map but is not drawing them or street lights. This is a video card issue that effects the in game engine (so far driver updates have not fixed this). This weekend a patch is scheduled to be released but I doubt this will fix our problem as this seems to be exclusive to older, unsuported video cards. IGNPC has info on the patch. Sounds like it will probably be a patch focused on stability issues/crashes. Oh and I forgot to mention they're apparently adding a new gameplay mode... A "Strategic" Mode. Hmm, me personally I would patch the game to make sure it runs a little better before adding features but maybe I'm just in the minority here and most people aren't experiencing any problems.

The game runs fine for the majority who are using "newer, supported" hardware. Almost never does a game company "dumb down" a game's graphics engine to support older EOL'ed cards.
At that, even older unsupported cards can many times render them if you kick the textures up enough in settings, but this will drag down the game playability/stability for trying to do more than your machine is capable of.
It's not so much a bug as it is not supporting EOL hardware.
(EOL = End of Life, or no longer produced/sold, usually)
Just ask Tink... *snickers*

FuBi0, If I place a landscape tree on the map, it takes my money. If I try to place another one in the same location, it takes my money again.
My conclusion is the trees are not invisible. They do not exist.

Look at the mini map, my pixel angered friend. Game took you're money the engine placed the tree, then failed to draw it. Hence, they're there you just can't see them. Now if this were real life and this happend then indeed the tree doesn't exist, but in the game, you just can't see them which means it is invisible. Look closely at the green on the mini map, the tree is marked there as well as other structures that the game interprets, and all these are also in "existence" in the game world. Hehe, argue all you want, I'm done on this end.
It's exactly the same as earlier D3D/DirectDraw errors in games like UT2003(or maybe it was 2004) when older drivers/cards were used. The Stone colums in the temples were there, you just couldn't see them because the card didn't recognize it. I had proof too, I couldn't walk through them. However, this game does let you build over trees, so thats not to just assume they aren't there.

FuBi0, if I place a slab of concrete & then try to place a tree on top of it, why doesn't the concrete square disappear?
You claim that the tree has been placed, but merely invisible. If so, then the concrete would be replaced by the invisible tree.
As for the minimap, I really hate to rub this in, but...
This thread (http://www.tiltedmill.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14694&page=2), you will see two images of the same map. JuliaSet has trees & I do not. Notice that the discolored areas on the minimap (and the actual maps) are not landscape trees. We both have them in our images. ;)
As for the "pixel angered friend", I am not angry in any way. I am eternally thankful to TM that the game works at all on my minimum computer.
I draw conclusions from what the game tells me & not have any preconceived biases.

Tink... You can draw trees on concrete. I do it all the time. The concrete will wipe out a tree, though.
Now, click and drag tree fields do, indeed, wipe out my concrete, but I've single-placed plenty of trees right in concrete textures (my present authoritarian city has several trees growing out of asphalt as if in righteous indignation).
Also, since you can lay trees over trees over trees, it'll take your money every time. This happens to me, as well...as it deletes the old tree and places a new one, for all intents and purposes.
Edit: Got a screenie of 3 trees I just placed in the middle of a parking lot hehe...

Well I don't think it has anything to do with video cards for me. My computer is still sold because my friend brought the same one from PC World a few months ago so I think trees don't exist. No wonder all my cities end up with lots of pollution!

Technically, the trees don't affect pollution. They're for looks.
If you bought a "ready-made" PC, check to see if you're using onboard video. If you are, it's also unsupported (unless I'm completely mistaken).

Obviously I'm missing something here, the logic particularly. If the kind of computers like yours are still for sale doesn't mean they are capable of running new games (like SCS). We have in my country for sale lots of different inexpensive laptops and desktops with integrated graphic chips or a low-end graphic card that cannot handle this game poorly if at all. My guess is you've got one of those and that is why you cannot see trees. Let's hope the new patch has an answer to your problem too. :)

My situation is that I have Patch 4, a GF 8600GTS 256 meg, latest WHQL nForce (i.e. non-beta) drivers for XP SP2. Pine trees, maple trees and oak trees all plant OK, but if I try planting deciduous trees, no go.

Just to say, i think the game turns off trees and other enviromental stuff if you have less than 600 mb of ram.512 cards are supported, but don't get you really far.If you have vista, you DEFIANTLY need 1gb of memory, and instead of geforce 5900, you'll need a geforce 6800 i think.Geforce 5200 runs SCS, but it is not supported, and your trees will not display. Please correct me if im wrong.
