Thanks for the saved game FomarTHain, we're currently taking a look at it.
Two questions through:
1) Have you tried loading the game on the lowest graphical settings possible?
2) Are you using any map mods, such as the one that increases the size of your map?

1) Yes and it will load about 90% of the time. However I have also gotten the blue screen of death in this mode as well and I get graphical remnants of lines and such and the menu that comes up when you hit ESC is just a red block.
2) Yes I have edited Random Map.xml from the default 256 to 512. I was wasn't getting crashes with 256 but my largest city was only about 15,000. At around 20k-25k the game starts to get a little jumpy and I get C++ error and eventually it won't load.
My specs:
Intel Core Duo 2.66
2GB RAM
8800 GTX
Sony DVD Drive
2 WD harddrives
Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R mobo
SoundBlaster Xi-Fi Extreme
Thanks for checking it out guys.
EDIT: WinXP Pro up to date.

Thanks for the file.
I think i know what the problem is. Its definately a memory leak. The file would sit there and load and sim city socierties went to 1 gig of ram use while laoding then crashed on me.
I run the game windowed and had task manager on my second monitor and when the game crashed with this file while loading simcity societies kept hogging up ram till it was using a gig of ram as indicated on task manager then crashed.
So its a memory leak.

In trying to load your save I ruined my installation as it seems (but don`t you bother FomarTHain ..........I was getting rid of the game and CD anyway :o )
When the disc starts running I get those pretties: see pics
There seems to be a "spell" on games from Tilted............
Anyway........SCS is the most expensive coffepot-mat I`ve ever had. :o

That's been a very useful save to look at. At first I was only able to load it with low graphic settings but not high, even on a relatively high end computer. It might help to lower the amount of vegetation if you try and make maps of this size.
I should point out that it has 4x the area of a normal map and this size is not officially supported (due to the additional memory it could take up depending on settings).
